A week with the Steam Machine: Love and frustrations
For the SD card, have you used any tools to validate that it’s actually 1TB? There are a few tools that do this for both Linux and Windows.

1Password Just Pledged $300,000 to DHH's Omarchy, and its Own Employees Aren't Happy
I don’t believe for a second that this jabroney distribution that most people haven’t heard of is the highest used among 1Password users. That statement needs fact checking

I’m surprised that no one has commented on the Mastodon post’s author recommending people ‘use a privacy concious browser like Chrome’. What a way to invalidate her arguments

That's a bad take, there will always be people who will say we can never afford it. The real question should be 'can we afford not to' as people live and die in miserable conditions.

How do I choose which independent developers to donate to and how much should I donate?
No amount of donations should be considered shameful, and anyone who tried shaming you for donating isn't worth your time

Besides them trying to upsell me a new router, what does this mean?
Routers sometimes have security issues that need to be patched. You should keep an eye out for bulletins and make sure your endpoints have host-based security where they can (antivirus and firewalls).
This is a big fuck you from netgear though -why would you purchase another netgear router when they could just decide not to support the next model and force you to upgrade again for more money?

Please don't use Discord for FOSS projects

The day Discord dies will be a massive loss for the internet.
What loss will that be? Discord's value is the same as MSN Messenger - the history on Discord is already unusable for resolving issues, so when it's gone people will just move to the next real-time communication platform that fills the same gap. It's not a forum that people can search and find answers on years after discussions have happened and solutions have been posted.

There’s not a driver shortage, there’s a livable wage shortage.

I'm ready to install Linux, but I'd like your opinion first
One thing I would recommend is using a note taking app to create snippets of fixes or personalization changes for your OS that you've made. For me that includes things like how to add my laptop's webcam to the blacklist and other things that I'd need to spend time looking up since I don't do them that often.

Installing Fedora 42 KDE, bios doesn't see my ssd anymore.
Do you have more than 1 disk in the computer? Either way, check bios for a disk setting called Intel RST. If you see that, change it to AHCI, save and reboot.

Question: If windows is required, what distro do you recommend?
I would highly recommend against installing a pirated version of Windows like BearOfATime suggests (at least via the second link he provided) - it could cause trouble for both you and your school.

If someone opened a store and just sold stuff at cost, which undercuts every other competitors by alot. Would this not for the big corps to come way down on their prices?
How would this store afford to pay its employees, rent and utilities if it only sold things at cost? One store alone would also make no difference, you’d need a chain of many stores.

It’s not just LG. Every TV company is spying on you

Why do these types of comments keep getting upvoted when they’re fundamentally virtue signalling with nothing of substance?
If people shouldn’t buy a smart tv, are you suggesting no tv at all? Or a business display that’s not as good for gaming and other media?
Or do you actually have a suggestion for a non-smart tv made with current technology?
