MAGA world is really mad that Trump is no longer running against Biden
Maybe they will start to realize the persistent election cycle is not a good thing. I would love to see a ban on all election campaigning until 90 days before said election but that wouldn’t get past a 1st amendment challenge.

Why does my 787's wing look like this?
https://www.planespotters.net/airline/Scoot
The average age of their 787-8 fleet is 7.8 years and 787-9 is 8.8 years so not brand new. Being a low cost carrier I suspect they don’t invest too much in maintaining their paint jobs.

Devastated PC builder orders DDR5 RAM from Amazon, receives DDR2 and some weights — counterfeit 32GB kit a worrying sign of rising return and sales fraud
Cost doesn’t seem to matter with return fraud. I recently received a “new” $6 item that had its contents replaced with a $4 item and then taped shut. Seriously, who wastes their time on this stuff?

Apple board pushes against diversity rollback call
Reply in thread
Pulling the ladder up behind him.
This isn’t coming from Tim Cook or people internally at Apple but a conservative group, I’m assuming activist investors, trying to reverse DEI programs via shareholder vote.

Why new grads are booing commencement speakers: There's an 'ambient anxiety that AI is going to make things dramatically worse'
Gloria Caulfield, an executive for Orlando-based property developer Tavistock, was met with a similar reaction at the University of Central Florida on May 8. The school's arts and humanities graduates booed when she equated the rise of AI to the "next industrial revolution." Moments later, they cheered when she said, "Only a few years ago, AI was not a factor in our lives."
Why is a property developer even talking at an arts and humanities graduation? Universities have a long standing tradition of shitty commencement speakers that benefit the school rather than the students. Wouldn’t be surprised if the school was looking for some sweetheart development deal here.
I remember my graduating class giving shit to our school for picky some high ranking general, likely as a result of the large amount of DoD grants the school gets. That guy got boo’d too when he spoke, effectively trying to give a recruitment speech.

For over a century, a U.S.-Canada cross-border library used a single entrance. Now, the U.S. says Canadians must build their own.
Reply in thread
A separate entrance is more then just a door:
To build out the Canadian entrance, the Haskell has to create a parking lot with reduced mobility spots, install reduced mobility access ramps and entrances, and build another proper building entrance to the facility.
Looks like their GoFundMe has a good response so far, already receiving over the expected $100k needed.

Which bottle looks better?
One thing you can do is apply a wash (basically diluted paint) over the laser etched sections, and wipe away the excess. This will allow you to color the etched sections that might look better then the printed version.

Apple board pushes against diversity rollback call
Reply in thread
The board is pushing against it and I’d doubt they’d move counter Apple leadership in this instance. While I don’t like the sucking up to Trump and the effective bribery of inauguration donations, outrage for this specific instance should be placed on the conservative group driving a shareholder vote rather then leadership that seems to be against it.

I had a friend that subscribed to a meal plan service but it required a phone call to cancel. Instead, before each shipment, he would search for the company on Google, click the sponsored ad and then proceed to delay shipment from their account page. He did this for years to ensure it cost them money for not offering an easy cancellation path until they eventually did so.

Is there any Lemmy mobile app without infinite scroll? EDIT: Nevermind, just found out that Voyager does it.
You can turn off infinite scrolling in Voyager under Settings -> General

I laughed when a guy came in from Doordash and picked up one can of Formula. I thought crazy someone would do that. But he claimed that he once delivered a candy bar. Anyone know if that possible?
My sister is a manager at a Dollar General and they get orders all day, everyday for single cheap items like this (soda, candy, chips, etc). While some of it is probably add-ons to other orders, many are not.

Could also be rsync, recent vibe coding changes there broke things and maintainer is also getting pretty annoyed with the comments.

I tried to add Sonarr to my Plex and I wanted to make an easy way to add series-es from work or wherever so I wanted to use an iMDB list but they didn't have that on Sonarr so I used a Trakt list and
FYI, you can use IMDB lists in Sonarr. First go to Settings -> Import Lists and click the add button. IMDB lists should be under “Other List” section.

Why people gave up using linux?
Linux works well if you need something to function as a tool, be it a NAS, network appliance, server, etc. You can setup it up with the small subset of things you need it to do and trust it’ll just run without further interference.
When it comes to a consumer device, it fails the “just works” criteria much harder the OSX or Windows. Software tends to be maintained by an army of unpaid volunteers passionate about their specific use case with a lot of infighting around how things get done. Such functionality is often developed by people with such a warped idea of usability that they consider VIM to be the ideal, modern, text editor. This is a piece of software that started life in the mainframe days, where input lag was measured in seconds rather the milliseconds, in order to minimize number of keystrokes, no matter how convoluted. This leads to multitudes of forks of functionality with subtly differing functionality often with terrible UI and UX catered to the developer’s specific workflow.
Whenever a lay persons asks how to get started with Linux, they get sent down a rabbit hole of dozens of distros, majority of which are just some variant of Ubuntu, with no clear indication of what’s different as they all just describe themselves as the ultimate beginner distro. With the paralysis of choice, they can pick one at random and hope it’ll work with their hardware without issue, spend hours figuring out the nitty-gritty differences and compatibility issues, or just give up and keep using what they already know.

There was most likely a closet or other crawl space storage area there. My house has closets like that but luckily full height entries to them so we can actually step in. I’ve seen other houses with 1/2 or 1/3 height doors leading to under-roof crawl spaces for storage.

Will I be not eligible for rehire by HR?

That’s the company’s problem, especially for a larger one. If a large company can’t handle having two people away at the same time, be it temporarily or permanently, that’s a problem with their staffing practices and not you or the other employee.

Missing Michigan toddler found in the woods asleep on family dog
Brooke Chase, Thea’s mother, said she had an instinct to check on her daughter who had been playing in the yard, and learned the toddler’s uncle told Thea to go inside because she had no shoes on.
When Chase and her brother-in-law realized Thea wasn’t in the house, she said she began to yell. They searched for about 20 minutes before calling Chase’s husband and police.
I’m curious what her mother and uncle were doing while her dad is away and she was playing alone in the yard. Where I live, kids that age have been attacked by coyotes, even when supervised, and that’s in a suburb of a major city, not rural Michigan.
