For most US drivers, EVs offer emissions benefits and cost savings
Reply in thread
You probably already know this but paper covers total cost of ownership. I think we agree cost of EVs is significantly inflated but for many use cases TCO is still lower than ICE vehicles. So if you're in the market for purchasing a car definitely worth investigating!

Why AI hasn’t caused a job apocalypse — so far
Reply in thread
Yeah I don't know why I'm getting attacked here. I am just trying to have a conversation not influence anyone's opinion.
If anyone is curious I am a software engineer. I have not been laid off but I do not have an overall positive view of the latest trend of "AI" in terms of its impact to society in the way it is overly represented by just a handful of "frontier lab" companies.
I appreciated the stats though that the reckoning has not yet come despite sympathizing with those who have already been impacted and being angered by companies who are making decisions on limited/short term goals.

I really wish the article did more to support it's position that a declining population is bad for human progress towards the back half of this century. Seems like a pretty important pillar of the discussion but it has maybe two throw away sentences with references to papers that are actually unrelated to its claim.
