Reading "The Left Hand of Darkness" by Le Guin, did she forget about the singular "they" while writing this?

It just seems incredibly odd for there to be so many lines in a book about gender insisting that there is no way to refer to someone (in the English language, at least) without implying gender. She even mentions the possibility of using „it“ at one point!

I’m liking the book otherwise, but every time the narrators ponder about pronouns without even considering „they“ I have to ask myself if there is any point in ignoring it or if she genuinely just forgot. I don’t think it’s possible for her to have not known about it considering how well-read she was and how long it’s been in use.

Little custom theme I made

I've never done something like this before, but I thought I'd try it since I couldn't find anything in this style online. There's a few things I couldn't find out how to change (like the background color for the themes that aren't coal) and a few settings that I couldn't figure out what they changed so if you have any alternations you'd make please let me know, as I'm still not sure if I'm quite happy with it yet.

::: spoiler Tap for spoiler The first column is graded incorrectly. Instead of checking for „am“, it checks for „a“ and „m“ separately, meaning any word containing both letters in any order is accepted.

Also bottom right is really hard. I think it was only 2 undiscovered unicorns left when I did it :::

5 Vocaloid songs of the week 16

1: syudou - Call Boy

syudou 👍 but I think I prefer the vocal version for this one. The background vocals don't really fit the Vocaloid tuning in my opinion.

2: TOOBOE - utage.

TOOBOE is also consistently really good. While listening to them back-to-back I've noticed how similar his and syudou's styles are, which might explain why I like them both a lot.

3: Deco*27 - Ghost Rule

It's a classic for a reason. Very good modern Vocarock.

4: sasakure.UK - chimera

A hybrid Vocaloid/Singer song. The mixing is very unique in this one, because it's done in a way that you (or rather, I) cannot distinguish between the two voices, creating a new "voice" that's somewhere between the two. I really like it, though. Sounds very unique, but the two voices mix very well together.
The Annabel version linked in the description is really good too, and I think I still prefer that one, despite my compliments for this version.

5: Kikuo - Tunnel Adventure

Among the best Kikuo songs in my opinion. I like it when he does slower, more calm songs than his usual more frantic stuff. He shines in both, but these kind of songs sadly don't get as much attention as his other stuff. It's been steadily getting more common over the years though, so let's the what his next album will have in store for us.

I noticed my last post only got one upvote. How did that happen? Did none of you see it or was it just bad? Anyways, it explains the mod stuff (as far as I could) so go read that if you're wondering about it

5 Vocaloid songs of the week 15

I am mod now

1: Inabakumori - Lagtrain

One of the first Vocaloid songs I listened to. Still like it a lot. More than deserves the fame.

2: Omoi - Teo

I only discovered Omoi pretty recently but I love this song. Motivating in a kind of desperate way that I can relate to.

3: Hachi - Panda Hero

Yeah good song. Still wish he never went to Sony Music, but that's probably just me being bitter. Don't know if he'd actually be much different then.

4: Hanyu Maigo - Aunnobeats

I love traditional instruments in modern music. Also really like the melodies here, but I can't stop thinking about the stupid Among Us Trap Remix at 2:08

5: Neru - Nihilistic Rock

Strange how I only get the suicide content warning when viewing from Youtube directly and not through the Shuffler I use.
Anyways, it's about becoming an adult in today's society and and feeling the pointlessness of it all, which I think most young adults can relate to in some way. The guitar line is really good, but that is to be expected of Neru.

About the mod thing: I just kinda woke up a few days ago and saw the mod options appear when checking Lemmy. Hisao (old mod and founder of this community) seems to have deleted their account. The other new mod is @[email protected], who may or may not know more than me.

I, for one, don't plan on doing much. The community's not very active anyways. If I ever come across anything completely unrelated to Vocaloid or anyone being an ass or a creep I might delete their post (if I remember I'm a mod by then), but I don't think I've seen anyone be like that here. You're all pretty nice :3

5 Vocaloid songs of the week 14

AaAaAaAaAaAaAaAaAa

1: Hachi - Musunde Hiraite Rasetsu to Mukuro

I really like this kind of stuff, especially from Hachi. Wish he did more before fully switching to rock.

2: Nashimoto Ui - AaAaAaAAaAaAAa

My favourite song of his. I think the minimal tuning of Miku enhances this one a lot. The instrumental is also really good.

3: Iyowa - Heat Abnormal

This one got pretty popular so you've probably heard it already. I really like the core melody here but it gets a bit too high pitched for me personally during the climax, which I think says a lot considering I'm a Kikuo fan

4: Siinamota - Sore Wa Mahiro No Suisei

I don't think I've actually listened to this one since I added it to the playlist. Very calm compared to his other stuff; just as melancholic but with a touch of pleasant nostalgia. A bit more mainstream but still recognizable as Siinamota. I like it.

5: Harumakigohan - This Earth, for You

Very beautiful and calming. Exactly the vibes you'd expect from the title. Really like this one. Another song I don't think I've listened to since I put it in, but I think if it pops up on my recommended I'll click on it more often now.

I don't know if I've been getting unlucky with the shuffle or if my playlist is just smaller than I thought but these past few weeks I've had to sort out a lot of repetitions. I think I'm gonna start allowing multiple songs from the same artist again if I have a lot of songs from that artist in the playlist.
(You can also always leave recommendations for me to put in. My taste is pretty broad so don't be afraid to post about your niche favourites)

5 Vocaloid songs of the week 13

I’m losing it

1: UMETORA - Isshinhuran

Really like this one. Makes very good use of its different Vocaloids (Luka, Miku and Gumi)

2: Kariki Bear - Darling Dance

I like this song. Most Kariki Bear songs are very similar, so I don’t have much else to say here.

3: Hello Tanitasan - Summer Murderous Urge

The original title is so long… I talked about Hello Tanitasan before, so I’ll summarize: Very good Vocarock producer who switched to regular music under his real name (Kitani Tatsuya)

4: 囚人P (ShuujinP) - Amber Woods

Not available on Youtube apparently, but I really like this song. Very artcore-ish, if that’s a term you’re familiar with (although I hate that name)

5: BCNO - Paradox and Float

I really like BCNO, and this song in particular. I just wish the piano was more audible after the intro, but it’s still very good.

5 Vocaloid songs of the week 12

My internet is dying

Also it's my birthday today so happy birthday to me

1: Deco*27 - Mosaic Role

Classic Deco*27 song. Wish he'd do Gumi songs again, seems like he's only doing Miku stuff nowadays

2: Iroha(sasaki) - 三鳥夭夭 (Midori Youyou)

I really like this song. It's just very calm with an interesting melody and rhythm. MV is slightly NSFW (not necessarily erotic, but it's just drawings of an almost nude woman)

3: Siinamota - At The Mercy Of A Dream

Very good Siinamota song. If you like his other stuff you'll like this one too.

4: Kikuo - Dust Dust Curse

One of my favourite Kikuo songs, but I see why others might not like it. The refrain of the song is mostly just 2 words getting continuously higher in pitch and it definitely reaches heights that a lot of people find uncomfortable. I usually do too, but Kikuo's songs are often exceptions to this and I don't know why.

5: Siinamota - Young Girl A

I already mentioned this song in my first post here so I wasn't sure if I should include it again, but here we are.

Probably one of Siinamota's most energetic songs, with his emotions being a lot less subtle in this one than in his other works. The linked version is the Album version (from Ikiru), which is a bit more polished than the Single version. I often prefer the less polished versions of songs because they usually include more of the artist's personality, but for this song I prefer the Album version. It feels a bit disrespectful to say, but this time I prefer this one. The other is a bit more on the edge of a chaos, which has it's own charm and is a slightly different feeling, but I relate more to this one.
