Self hosting Dotmakeup

@vincent - I'm fairly new to running services on my vms but does anyone have any experience running DotMakeup ? I'd like to host an instance to share some Twitter and instagram accounts in a controlled way to my family on my #friendica instance.

I'm kinda of at that point where I can sort of use #DockerCompose but umm.. honestly not really sure where I would start from git.sr.ht/~cloutier/dotmakeup

New to Authentik - Challenges with getting my first application working

- I'm new to #Authentik - I've just spun up a test instance and tried to connect my first application (#Postiz) but I'm kind of stuck.

I've installed both Postiz and Authentik using Docker Compose - as provided by the relevant apps.

As far as #Authentik goes it looks like its approving authentication requests (its showing successes in the GUI) but the application just returns to the login screen without progressing.

One thing that I found was that within the configuration of the Application and Provider one URL provided by Authentik is the /application/o/postiz/.well-known/openid-configuration which lists several URLs used by the application - one is /application/o/authorize/ but unlike all the others this returns a 404 error when I try to load it via the browser.

I am struggling to work out if - this URL should 404 should occur and also how to diagnose what the problem is.

I've popped messages in their relevant Discord forums but any ideas or input would be greatly appreciated - I'm figuring getting Authentik is going to be key to getting other applications going.

Multidomain ActivtyPub Servers

- I had my eye on #takahe @takahe , jointakahe.org as a handy multidomain activitypub server - as far as I knew - able to run multiple different domains on the one server, sharing storage etc ... but when times comes to go back to it and look at getting something running I see that the project has been sunset. Does anyone know anything about what happened to it .. or an alternative , survivor project?

Firewall exceptions to allow external access to a specific ipv6 address on Starlink router without using bypass mode

I don't have access to my Starlink router at the moment (I'm traveling) and its going to be a while before I'll be back - but one of the things I need to look at is whether I can allow incoming connections for specific ipV6 addresses (and/or ports) to allow me to run an ipV6 VPN end point from an Openwrt router running behind the Starlink connection.

My objective is to securely run a ipV6 endpoint to allow me access to devices sitting behind a Openwrt router that is using a Starlink router as its WAN connection without using bypass mode so I don't disrupt others already using the Starlink Wifi.

I know that practically putting the Starlink router in bypass mode then emulating its SSID and wifi device ID to seemlessly migrate users over to more configurable OpenWRT router would be a better option - but that's possibly going to cause some disruptions (lets say its not politically acceptable ) but perhaps opening up a ipV6 address might be.

I've had a quick look around for guides / instructions but without immediate success. I don't know whether that's because it can't do it or I'm just not finding the appropriate documentation.

That sweet satisfaction of something actually working

- Big shout out to egc on the #openwrt forum - forum.openwrt.org/u/egc/summar… - Who helped me sort out some wireguard routing issues that have been bugging me for ages!

Yesterday I sat down and spun up a test harness of openwrt to try to figure out how to get policy based routing working with wireguard and after a day bashing my head against a brick wall egc provided the clarrification, knowledge and experience I needed to sort this out.

Here's the chat - forum.openwrt.org/t/wireguard-… - yeah I didn't get it at first but feels so good to finally work this out.

Does this sound weird but...

- I know this is a bad way to express it but do wish that #streetcomplete and @MapComplete #mapcomplete would get together with @panoramax and gitlab.com/ravenfeld/baba to have a baby.

Streetcomplete is so good when you are wandering past somewhere and think "That shop or thing should be on Openstreetmap" - so you pull together some details into streetcomplete - but then you think "A few photos of this place would be really handy" so you open Baba and take some photos of the exterior or street around it but while they are geolocated next to the location they aren't linked to the shop/feature or whatever.

I'm tempted to jump into Mapcomplete because yes if its an existing place I can fill in some more details (once I go through and find the location in the relevant filters ) but if I've just added it it won't be in mapcomplete even though I would love to add those photos - answer a few questions about the place and even pop in a review.

What I've realised that is random geolocated street photos are a mine of geocodble info.

Don't get me wrong - all of these apps are amazing! - I'm so thankful to all the amazing work that people have done on them ... I recommend them to friends but I just wish I was skilled enough to help bring them together and make something even more beautiful ...

Thoughts on funding Firefox (and other Open Source Projects)

- I periodically have thoughts about the challenges of sustainably developing #opensource software.

Ever since university days I have been very much aware of the limitations of accountablity in #Trusts such as #Mozilla - They are accountable only to their Trustees and without a democractic process of appointing Trustees its difficult for community members to hold them accountable to their stakeholders. They can go off on their own personal agendas or be captured by those that offer the most funding to the organiation.

For this reason I have though that it might make sense to create a coop out of users of open source software that adheres to some democractic princples that mean that contributors retain the ability to influence open source projects.

A #coop that gives voting rights to members to shape where resources collected are funneled would mean that their wants would be taken into account in where paid development is focused.

To avoid undue influence such a group would need to:

Only allow natural people (rather than legal entities such as companies and other trusts and charities) to join and fund their activities.

Impose some level of minimum and maximum contribution (or limit decision making to a one person, one vote basis)

I wonder whether templates for #coops of this type would encourage more to forum and encourage those who want to contribute to opensource development to do so knowing that their voices and opinions wouldn't be lost as successful projects attract other funding sources.

Community run free Open Source plugins for a community group using Wordpress

I volunteer with a community group that uses #Wordpress for its website. So far its approach to Wordpress plugins has been fairly haphazard. Our budget is basically zero. We've ended up using various plugins for User Registration, Access control, Forms, Backup and Restore and other funcitons that are all freemium or cripleware versions of plugins that are really commerical projects by their authors.

On the otherhand we have been looking at running #CiviCRM inside wordpress and that looks to be a powerful, useful tool that's truely community open source.

What other plugins are community groups using that are true community developed opensource projects? I've tried to look through the community plugins directory on Wordpress.org and do some searches but the web is littered with promotional content for commerical 'free' plugins.

I really don't have strong connections to the wordpress community. It woudl be great to connect with other community group volunteers that are involved in Wordpress and get your input and thoughts.

How to follow just tech, international etc. (No sports)

@AssociatedPress I follow you via Activitypub but I am struggling to figure out two things.

How could I follow just your top stories, tech or international without all the sports? - Do you need to separate out your flipboard accounts to make this possible?

How could I see just your stories on a particular topic - say #Iran ? Would you need to add some topic keywords/hashtags to your posts?

Welcome yours or anyone elses from knowledge on this

@fediverse

Back on the Road again

- After a few weeks work we have just managed to get our #hino #motorhome road legal again with a new #certificateoffitness - while also managing to track down and resolve an issue with a faulty air valve that was causing our over pressure valve to go off every few minutes. We managed to get progress on a new ceiling and and of course we would have loved to have spent the time on the road its good to be able to put it to bed till next time knowing that its in better shape and know we will pretty much be able to pull it out and drive away with it next time.

Planing and installation of ceiling lighting and switches as well as insulation and panelling out the sides will be next. Plus a bt of body work and repaint and clear coat but these are exciting things. - I'm going to love doing the house electrics especially since the basics (solar, fridge and basic lights/sockets) are already in.

Australian ban on under16s social media

- Ive been spending alot of time driving lately and I heard again about the impending ban on social media for under 16yo children in Australia.

It made me wonder whether there is as opportunity/ use case for #ActivityPub based solutions that allow schools / community groups to offer accounts to their parents - that could be then used by those parents to offer moderated/ controlled child accounts (for their children).

Parent accounts would have vistability and potentially control over who child accounts can follow/conmunicate with. Schools could use it for communication with parents and/or pupils.

Yunohost - Federating the forum

- As a yunohost user I find the yunohost discourse forum really useful - but I also find that tracking posts and discussions in the forum - the many other forums for other software I use - and then related conversations on ActivityPub time consuming.

I know that the discourse forum software has a plugin that allows content in the forum to be followed via ActivityPub without impacting the ability for the forum losing control of content moderation in the forum (or having to deal with ActivityPub replies and conversation) meta.discourse.org/t/activityp…

I while ago I posted in the forum about the idea forum.yunohost.org/t/discourse… - but perhaps because it mightnt have been seen by ActivityPub users - there wasnt much interest.

I think that making it easier to follow and share forum content would also promote yunohost to activtypub users.

What do people here thing? - What are your thoughts ?

Sync Fediverse contacts to CardDav Account

- Does anyone know of a service or feature that can sync the fedivers/ #activitypub accounts that an account (or.accounts) follows and/or is followed by - into a #CardDav account?

My use case is thus - As a person with a Mastodon and/or Lemmy, Pixelfed, Friendica, GotoSocial accounts - I would like to syncronise the profiles of the accounts I follow and/or the accounts that I follow into an existing CardDav account in which I record the names, emails, phone numbers, profile pictures of the people I know. I would like the syncronisation to either simply relflect the information held in each fediverse account - allowing me to use a sepatate contact merging service - or optionally to append/update information to existing contacts in a nominated CarDav account so that I can have one complete CardDav record reprenting people i know across Fediverse and other contact points.

I remember when I used to be able to sync my Facebook friends with my address book, my contacts from Skype and it was useful.

It would also make sharing my Fedi details with others easier ..I could just message them a Carddav file.

Does this make sense? Does it exist? Shoud it exist? @davx5app - Is this somehow related tonwhat you are doing or do you know relevant related services - Maybe CardDav merging tools? Is it something @thunderbird would/could do?

Guide to Yunhost Install - VPS or local selfhosted ?

- I would encourage @elena to cover both options - VPS and locally / selfhosted in a guide to setting up Yunohost - and include plenty of references to doc.yunohost.org/en/admin/get_… - I'd also encourage you to include some suggestions on areas/things that its worth learng a little more about (e.g. DHCP, some basic routing, Firewalls/Portforwarding )
