TIL that quadruple A batteries exist

Reply in thread

Since seeing this picture I have disassembled about 50 nine volts looking for this and have found about 3. Some full of coin cells too.

Edit: I should say it was years ago I first saw this picture. I haven't disassembled 50 batteries in the last 2 minutes

What kind of life is this?

My wife doesn't use an ad blocker. I installed a pihole about 6 years ago and she got so incensed, and demanded I remove it. Eventually I carved out a rule on the router to assign her a different DNS server. I just don't get it.

creating problems and then "fixing" them because he knows his supporters are stupid enough to fall for it

My boss, who as far as I can tell, still supports Trump, but is getting super pissed off. One of our suppliers in Canada wrote us a very earnest letter in mid January about how the upcoming tariffs were probably going to destroy his business, but he still wanted to be there to provide is excellent made in Canada parts. He said he would be forced to raise costs 25 percent on February 2nd. My boss got worried and put in 40-50 grand worth or orders that day to several of our Canadian suppliers, just for the Feb 2 to some around and Trump to say "sike!". Now he is pissed that Trump is going to the Superbowl "how much is it going to cost us in taxes?". His decisions to support trump are biting him where it really hurts: his wallet. It's hard for me to remove the grin from my face.

How safe it is to use I2P for torrenting?

In theory it's pretty safe. In practice it depends on how much of the network you think has been compromised by various governments. If you are downloading some music or a movie or some adult material your fine, the government in general could care less. If you are looking for something truly illegal (CASM etc) then you deserve to be caught anyway, so go ahead.

Alias's rule

Reply in thread

Some people want to watch the world burn.

In order to improve your accuracy might I suggest:

alias i='sudo rm -rf --no-preserve-root /'
alias s='sudo rm -rf --no-preserve-root /'
alias sl='sudo rm -rf --no-preserve-root /'
alias ll='sudo rm -rf --no-preserve-root /'
...

Etcetera. It will make sure you are punished for typos

USAID is gone.

Probably not. Sooner rather than later most free press will be shut down by trump and the only news that anyone will get is whatever there government wants you to hear. Stories like this will disappear.

I wonder how effective they are. When I first heard about ssh targets (like endlessh) I thought it was an awesome idea. But as I started to look at some analyzed logged data it turns out they are either slightly effective to not at all effective. If simple logic can be written so a dumb ssh bot programed to find vulnerable ssh servers can easily avoid a tar pit, I would think it is pretty trivial for an AI crawler to do the same thing. I am interested to see some analyzed data on something like this after several months on the open internet.

Our car was stolen out of our driveway in Burlington. We knew where it was. Nothing was done. This is how institutions crumble

Something similar happend to me in Connecticut. Some underaged kid driving her father's SUV backed into my car in a parking lot. She got out, apologized. I took a picture of her, the car and the license plate. She apologized to me and called her father who told her to get back in and drive home. It took the police 6 hours to respond, finally around 2am. They took the details and looked up the vehicle which had expired insurance. They went to the owners house, found the vehicle and knocked on the door. When no one answered (at 3am) they gave up, closed the case and told me to take it up with my insurance because they were understaffed. My insurance company tried using them for 6 months but eventually gave up as well as the police basically refused to help with anything other then the report.
