I got my boxes in the U.S. to take to Europe, so unfortunately I'm not sure what the situation is for the Canadian version; odd that they didn't roll out the firmware update to those devices though.

Federal Workers Can’t Get the White House’s App Off Their Phones
“Government devices typically include preinstalled apps that provide value to government employees’ day-to-day work.”
They should go back to doing that instead then.

Ukrainians Set the Kerch Connection on Fire as Russians Brace for the Final Decapitation Strike
Aside from the thumbnail (and all of the channel's thumbnails) being needless clickbait, any and all Ukrainian efforts to retake Crimea are good, but short-term expectations should still be measured against the fact that Russia is strategically willing to invest even more resources into holding onto Crimea than even the Donbas region, so unfortunately it will probably take more just an energy shortage (or even the closure of the Crimea-Russia bridge) to make progress towards reintegrating it into Ukraine.

Prairieland ‘Antifa’ Activists Sentenced to Decades in Prison on ‘Terrorism’ Charges
Benjamin Song was sentenced to 100 years in prison and Maricela Rueda to 70. Savanna Batten, Elizabeth Soto, Meaghan Morris, Autumn Hill, and Zachary Evetts each received sentences of 50 years. Daniel Sanchez Estrada, who was not at the demonstration, was sentenced to 30 years on charges relating to concealing documents in the investigation.
A disgusting abuse of power.

Trump administration touts Iran deal as a payday for US farmers, but Iran denies it
The U.S. Treasury Department, he wrote, would release the Iranian assets “into escrow, controlled by the U.S.A., and will be used for the purchase of food and medical supplies, exclusively from the United States, including Corn, Wheat, and Soybeans from our great American farmers. These are things that are desperately needed by Iran.
If Iran buys food from anywhere, the U.S. is surely the last place they'd choose to get it from.

Trump Reportedly Tells Zelenskyy to “Act More Boldly” to Pressure Putin Into Peace Talks
Ukraine could act far more boldly if American financial and materiel support for its war effort were reinstated (not that Trump would do that).

3 die in France as temperatures to exceed 105 F in Europe heat wave
At least 18 people in France are dead from the heatwave; the Reuters story with that figure came out before this one, so NBC should have updated their story to avoid understating the impact.

Microsoft touts LGBTQ+ inclusion while critics point to Trump concessions
Wilke says Microsoft’s moves could be interpreted charitably or cynically. On one side, it could be read as an attempt to continue supporting the community in less risky ways while warding off attacks from the Trump administration. But on the other hand, it could be “just trying to take our money.”
Supporting the community in "less risky ways" demonstrates that such support was hollow pinkwashing from the very start. If they truly believed in it as a core corporate value, they would be willing to forgo business dependent on accepting transphobia; quarterly profits are clearly more important to them.

'You won't make it back': Trump's threat to Iran reps at peace talks
Mr Trump has made fiery threats of violence before and failed to follow through. So, anything he says along these lines needs to be viewed in that context.

Democratic-led states balk at ‘Great American State Fair’
every American will see themselves in this once-in-a-generation event
I don't see anything of myself in fascist-oriented, needlessly nationalistic celebrations when multinational Eurovision-style events that foster international cooperation would be a far more beneficial use of state and federal resources than promoting nationalism.

LAPD releases footage of moment officers shot and killed woman’s dog
Her two-year-old golden Saint Bernard doodle runs to the door and barks at the officers, whose faces are blurred in the video.
The point of body camera footage is accountability; blurring the faces of the officers involved takes that away.
