The games industry reacts to the shock buyout of EA
@Jeffool "The size of the deal will likely require regulatory approvals"
Since one of the buyers is the son in law of the King of Trumpistan, approval by American "regulators" is already a done deal.

EA CEO Andrew Wilson got a nice pay bump last year, while the company's workers earned less on average
@ZippyBot How is that news? That's the capitalist economic system working as intended.

@TrickDacy @bonenode Could Quake 3 even run without a graphics card? It came out in late 1999 and was the best looking game at the time by far.

Amazon has confirmed plans to make approximately 14,000 people redundant within its corporate workforce, including staff within its video game division.
@Jeffool I didn't know Amazon's video games division still existed.
I thought that was scrapped years ago, never having had released a single game.

A presidential proclamation has introduced a hefty fee for the H-1B visa route – but there are other options for bringing employees to the US
@Jeffool Though no employee should agree to go into the US when illegal kidnappings by government thugs are happening in broad daylight every day, military troops are send out to intimidate state and city governments, and the former health ministry is actively spreading contagious diseases.

Build a Rocket Boy confirms more layoffs amid further claims of "organized espionage and corporate sabotage"
@Jeffool That sounded highly over-dramatic even before I opened the article and saw that that's the company that made MindsEye. 😆
They don't have a Wikipedia page, but Wikipedia does have a page on the " massively multiplayer online game and game platform with an integrated game creation system" they are currently developing.

Warhammer Classics initiative re-releases 28 vintage Warhammer and W40K games, with seven out on Steam for the first time
@Agent_Karyo These numbers are insane.
If they would give out Star Wars licenses to any developer who asks, we'd be swimming in Star Wars games every year, and Disney would drown in the license fees they collect.

Report: Meta has laid off over 100 Reality Labs employees

@expatriado @Jeffool I always considered it a fad for videogames. A tool with real potential for niche engineering applications, but that's it.
Seems it might be dawning on developers as well.

@expatriado @Jeffool Oh, and aside from firing 100 developers (is that a lot?), the division also had an 18 billion dollar loss over the last year.

How is it possible that is the same (mostly) Ubisoft that pulled the AAAA bullshit and made Valiant Hearts: the great war?
@[email protected] I assume someone lower down the ladder misleading the higher ups and secretly diverting funds to a team too small to appear on their radar.
