What single purchase has returned the most in terms of value?
My dry herb vaporizer, used to spend 0.3-0.5g on a spliff joint and now I'm using 0.05-0.15g per bowl while getting great effects, flavour, and level of convenience, and ofc.. I stopped combusting, so it's better for my health too. Returned it's value after few weeks tops.

But it is an open source project and the developers views are strongly in favor of privacy, so yeah you can self host it or check the source code. But I think it's safe to assume they didn't program it like that.
Note that people who host an instance can theoretically change it, but still I wouldn't worry it'll actually happen.

the smoking/cancer connection was noticed long before peak cigarette smoking in the population. Prior to WWII, lung cancer was considered a rare disease. That changed with the mass marketing of cigarettes.
With vaping, lots of studies on pg/vg vaping was done and not much has been found. The UK gov supports it for years now. Most of the bad name of vaping caused by people who didn't bother to research or people who confused it with the EVALI cases,which bought their products illegally and contained vitamin E
