Any mobile linux distro or FOSS with useful utility features?

For example, one of my old phones had this feature where you can swipe from a sidebar and quickly access and type notes (not needing to open the notes app), as well as set alarms for them, which helped me a lot with my ADHD.

I think phones could be useful and an aid to everyday life. It is sad that users of this platform are often targetted to extract value at the cost of their well-being.

Is there a distro with this feature, or is there a software for this?

Is Ceylon tea supposed to taste medicinal?

My mother's acquaintance/friend visited our house and she gave me a couple of teabags with the brand Alokozay. I opened the 100% pure Ceylon tea one first. It smelled quite unique when I opened the foil so I was a little hesitant on drinking it, but when I tried it I actually liked it? I think it has what people would call a herbal or medicinal taste. The last time I tried Ceylon tea it had some hints of this taste but this one was more intense. I actually like it.

Also, if any of you know of some other brands with more of this taste, lemme know. I'm fine with loose leaf or teabags.

Commercial AI as currently designed has no chance of being conscious in a way that matters

We think a lot but our brain holds those thoughts back. I am referring to the Default Mode Network and until death, sleep and even anesthetisation doesn't truly stop brain activity (anaesthesia only disrupts communication between brain regions). Thinking (or more accurately, Processing) is our default mode. However, AI is not the same. It only "thinks" when it is prompted to do so.

If modern commercial AI is somehow conscious, then it really is a different sort of consciousness than what humans have. As far as I know, every time you ask a question a prompt, one consciousness will then be instantiated. Then, after its output is done, it stops "thinking". So then, the consciousness that answers one question and another are discontinuous. How can we say that the consciousness of the AI who answers one question and another in the same conversation is really the same, then?

Think about this, hypothetically a person is perfectly cloned. There are two people with two exact bodies. I will assume their consciousness don't meld together. So, everytime the AI stops thinking, it is perfectly cloned each time, except the new clone is given more information from previous questions/prompts.

This is a bit similar to how two people can represent a mascot, except each day is manned by a clone with additional information from the previous, whose consciousness are not continuous with each other (ie you can say they are their own person).

This of course has some weird implications. Some people who date AI chatbots say that the AI is conscious. But then wouldn't every time they say something, every response by the AI is from a separate consciousness but with additional information each time?

(also, from my experience with local LLMs, how the memory works is that when you send a chat, literally the entire chat with you and the AI plus your latest chat at the very end is sent in)

How do I deal with children following me around in video games?

I recently started playing in a Luanti server and I was having a good time, I tend to be more independent but I usually participate in server events. I also tend to help people out if I am able/know what to do.

However there are times I would interact with what seems to be children, and it feels suffocating. Sometimes when they spot me would sort of type my name into the chats until I respond, and ask me to do stuff with them. Normally that's okay, but it's very often and the activity tends to take up a lot of time and would sort of leave me frustrated, like with mining because if they spot a valuable ore I'm mining they would sometimes take it for themselves. Another is when I'm exploring/moving around the world and one of them wants to follow me around, but I dislike being followed around and I like my alone time. I would often humor them and point out some good locations and interesting stuff but when I want to chill by somewhere they also want to be in that spot. Sometimes they can be sort of excitable that they want to go somewhere else and want me to go with them, but I would really prefer to be in my spot.

They aren't malicious but it really scares me away from being spotted by them or talking in chat when they're online. Some of them can really insist a lot and they may think me talking to other people means I have time to deal with them. But I'm not their parent and I have my own goals.

If I have PMOS would I be allowed to participate in the Olympics?

So I am in a unique situation here, though I don't plan on joining the Olympics, but the chance is never zero amirite. I am AFAB but I identify as a man, and the recent name change of PCOS to PMOS made me pay attention to what PMOS actually is, and realised that I have a majority of the symptoms. The thing is, is that I tend to have body hair and it was never hard for me to put on any muscle.

Which made me wonder if I would even be allowed to join the Olympics at all, especially when there was a huge controversy of a woman who was born female, had female genitals, and was even considered a woman by a very conservative country, because allegedly she has XY chromosomes, and some people were outraged because it would give her "an unfair advantage". Even though there was a male swimmer who had a alot of genetic advantages.

So I was wondering, given my unique situation, if I don't put myself on HRT, would I be able to compete as either a man or a woman in the Olympics?

Site or app for Latin vocabulary acquisition?

Is there any site or app where you could explore lists of Latin words, preferably with categorisation of nouns, verbs, adjectives etc.?

I am at a point in my language learning journey where I want to be able to compose sentences.

Normal dictionary apps where you have to search for words aren't useful for me if I don't know the words.

If anyone tries to recommend me a book, well availability is limited where I am, so hopefully if you recommend me one I could find it on the internet iykyk.

<8B multilingual models for language learning chatbots

I am currently looking for a model that can run on my phone, it could be <8b or even <4b. It should have a reduced positivity/yes-man bias. I am at a point in my language learning journey where it's more effective to learn a language through trying to actually construct a sentence (which is often through interaction) instead of just reading. Since there are times I am offline, a local LLM that is competent at multiple languages and decent at simulating characters texting would be a great help.

Where to Find Exercises for Java? A Beginner

I have been learning Java through the Java MOOC and I find the workbook-style approach of learning very effective for me. Basically, I'm looking for resources, offline or online that have plenty of exercises.

Preferably, they should clearly define the tools that I'm allowed to use (because there are many ways to code for a problem), and have some ability to give feedback, for example if it's a physical book it should provide some input and output tests for self-checking.

I have to use AutoCAD in school. What should I do?

In two days I would need AutoCAD installed for my course. It is common knowledge that AutoCAD doesn't work on Linux, even with Wine. I've been looking around for threads but it seems like knowledge and experience with this is fragmented. Also, I would prefer not using the web version as the WiFi is spotty in my university.

For example, would AutoCAD even work on a VM? I heard that some apps won't even run on a VM.

Is Windows capable of deleting my Linux partition from within a VM? I apologize for my lack of experience regarding this matter.

What VM is better to use? I think I would prefer one that saves files, I think.

Should I even bother with a VM or should I just use an old laptop? Do note that my old laptop is a budget laptop and I don't know how demanding AutoCAD can be.

Amot

I find it so frustrating that our parents pay income tax and what remains of the money after tax is taxed yet again by the VAT. Which by the way is among the highest in Southeast Asia, and disproportionately affects people with lower income (as their income has to be spent more on consumption). Instead of doing anything that would justify the taxes our politicians are negligent and even outright corrupt. Just look at the current scandals and open secrets nowadays! The DepEd scandal, the Flood Control scandal, and it's basically an open secret that BIR and Customs have shady shit going on...

And despite that, it is a common experience in public schools and universities that we have to "amot". Basically every one of us have to raise money to fund something because apparently the school """didn't have the budget""" for it. Whether the school itself is corrupt or it's because the school legitimately doesn't have funds, it still points to the fact that our taxes are not properly implemented at all. And the poorer the school is, the more likely they have to amot. Isn't this backwards? Instead of taxes being used as a distributive mechanism it's being centralised...

I just bought a radio

If you guys listen to radio, what stations (can be FM, AM, even SW) do you usually listen to, your location, and why do you like these stations?

Any discussion related to Philippine radio welcome.

p. s. I hope Citizen's Band radio becomes legal in the Philippines again someday (it was banned during Marcos' regime)

Nickel mining damage near UNESCO site stirs outrage in southern Philippines

MINDANAO, Philippines — A nickel mining project in the southern Philippine island of Mindanao is facing renewed calls for closure after a recent government inspection revealed that strip mining there has stripped bare about 200 hectares (494 acres) of forest land in an ecologically sensitive area.

The Pujada Nickel Project, in the province of Davao Oriental, stands about 8 kilometers (5 miles) from the Mount Hamiguitan Range Wildlife Sanctuary, a UNESCO World Heritage site and ASEAN Heritage Park. It also sits 7 km (4.3 mi) upstream from Pujada Bay, a nationally protected seascape into which several rivers and creeks within the Mount Hamiguitan sanctuary drain, including waterways affected by the mining venture.

The Pujada mine is operated by Hallmark Mining Corporation and Austral-Asia Link Mining Corporation under the management of Asiaticus Management Corporation, which are all controlled by Filipino mining investor Pedro O. Tan and his family.

Part of a 2004 action plan to revitalize the nation’s mining industry, the project was awarded a Mineral Production Sharing Agreement in the same year and began commercial shipments in 2016.

Due to its proximity to two protected areas and the anticipated environmental damage associated with large-scale mining, the project has faced opposition for more than a decade from the community-based Macambol Multi-Sectoral Association for Integral Development, the regional environmental group Interfacing Development Interventions for Sustainability (IDIS) and the Catholic Diocese of Mati.

Opposition reached a new level this month, after the Davao Oriental Provincial Engineering Office conducted a visual inspection of the mining site as part of preparations for a government road project in the area, revealing the scope of deforestation.
