Israeli Supreme Court rules that the military must begin drafting ultra-Orthodox men
Well, this'll throw a spanner in the works. To be clear: it's the ulta-orthodox that have been responsible for the worst of the so called "settlers" (displacement of Palestinian people's from their homes) and are rabid supporters of the rightwing Government. They are always in favour of military intervention regardless of outcomes, probably because none of them have to serve in the military.

Honestly, I can't see how SCOTUS could rule in his favour. The US constitution clearly states that there is a seperation between church and state. For SCOTUS to rule in his favour would require them overturning the constitution itself.

Hurricane Milton Spurs Misinformation, Meteorologist Death Threats
How easy would it be for a foreign power to use inexpensive bot nets to amplify misinformation on a truly industrial scale on what are, essentially, unregulated social media platforms? Turns out the results are in and (a) it's very easy and (b) it's incredibly effective at sowing distrust and fear.
It's time to regulate social media folks. The "free speech" excuse has been proven demonstrably false by Musk, Zuckerberg et al.

People are starting to place bets on Reddit's civil war — Business Insider
To be honest, I've been dissatisfied with Reddit for quite a while now but just didn't realise it. Once I dipped my toes into the Fediverse I realised what it was I'd been missing: that sense of community that Reddit used to have before it became too big, too cold and too corporate. In my defence I used RIF for years and was shielded from the worst excesses of corporate culture. After setting myself up on Lemmy and getting a bit of a handle on what's what I'm really enjoying the sense of intimacy and DIY ethos. It's far more like the Reddit I used to know. It feels good to be back.

Trump blasts 'out of control' museums for teaching 'how bad Slavery was' in wild rant
There are only three things you need to know about Trump: (1) he always fails, (2) he always lies and (3) he always chickens out.

Actually they could throw him in a maximum security prison and condem him to solitary confinement (for his own protection you know) and that would negate the need for the Secret Service

Netanyahu faces Israel coalition crisis over drafting ultra-Orthodox Jews
It's about time the Ultra Orthodox Jewish (translation: extreme far right religious nut jobs) chicken hawks were forced to put their money where their mouths are. 90% of the current crisis in Gaza is due to this small, vocal and extraordinarily hypocritical religious sect.

U.S. national debt surpasses $34 trillion
The real issue is not so much the debt but rather revenue raising, the increasing debt is merely a symptom of the US's inability to attract enough revenue (via taxes) to cover it's spending. Decades of propaganda by the right (you could easily substitute Oligarchy here) and the slashing of taxes on wealthy individuals and corporations has created an unsustainable debt situation. This is despite the sovereign debt issue.
