Yes, but it's difficult to access. You need to want to get the care and actively campaign to be referred.

And that's the "easy" things like anxiety or garden variety depression.

As soon as it gets complicated it's a whole other story.

If she never tried to seek it out, then it doesn't even matter as it appears she didn't give off any "I murder babies" vibes to the extent that the investigation was delayed beyond a reasonable length of time because she was not suspected of such a thing.

The dreaded ring (by Pedro Arizpe)

Reply in thread

The last time my dad called was 16 years ago when my mum was bleeding out after surgery and we didn't know if she was going to make it.

Other than that, it's WhatsApp messages, and they're usually about the dog.

I would 100% think someone had died if my dad called.

Any Books like The Martian by Andy Weir

Try the Bobiverse books by Dennis E Taylor. They were my next step after the Martian and we're pretty good.

I also tried out a nice series by Nick Jones following a time traveller called Joseph Bridgeman which was decent, though it does deviate from alone in space to more loner.

Forgetting

Reply in thread

My old boss gave me a load of shit for writing down tasks that I had to do. He just couldn't comprehend that it wouldn't stick if it wasn't written down.

He took my book from me, and then asked me to do a bunch of complicated stuff each with its own deadline.

He then got annoyed when I didn't do the stuff because I hadn't written it down because he took my book.

He got sacked, I got promoted.

International Chess Federation (FIDE) to ban and punish transgender players

Reply in thread

Woman here, and genuinely, I don't know what's right.

I can recognise that m>f after puberty gives someone a strength advantage but at the same time it's hard enough having to transition without feeling even more marginalised by being banned from sports.

Maybe there needs to be just a women's and open category to recognise the strength handicap that cis women have for certain activities and allow anyone to compete in open, but then there's the challenge of prize money, viewers etc etc between the two that also needs to be managed appropriately.

At the end of the day, someone isn't going to be happy and for that there is no good solution, but we need to be doing our best for cis and trans athletes to make sure everyone has a chance to compete in the sports they live.

Chess? Banning trans competitors is fucking idiotic and the chess federation can fuck right off with that implied notion of women being less capable.

I'm 37 and already broken.

My back is killing me, the sciatica makes sitting down hard. My ankle is fucked from too many injuries doing shit like tough mudder because when you're young you're invincible. Top that off with an immune disorder and asthma and it'll be a miracle if I make it to 50 with a good quality of life.

Wisconsin Teacher Accused of Having Sex with 8th Grade Student, Buying Him a Gun on His Birthday

Why are these women not called rapists?!
There's a fundamental change that needs to take place for women who commit sex crimes.

They get let off, the victims are not fully believed or supported in the same way a woman would be, and the media reports it almost like "what a lucky kid" rather than a person in a position of authority taking advantage of a child. If the genders were swapped there would be an angry mob outside.

That's delightful.

I do have to laugh at the zealots as they do pick and choose what bits of the bible they live their lives by. It's almost as if they heard someone else say something and took it as gospel without doing their own research.

I have picked up a copy of the bible, with the aim of understanding it to be able to have an informed discussion on religious arguments.

PLEAAASSEE PLEASE COME BACK TO THE OFFICE PLS

Reply in thread

I probably do the same if not more work at home as I did in the office, but only "work" about 2/3 of the time.

I don't have a boss lecture me on blockchain for an hour because they were near my desk, I don't need to listen to Carla's story about her flat tyre, I don't need to get constantly distracted when I'm deep in an analysis hole because someone on maternity leave has walked in with their new baby.

The time spent caught up in boring distractions is used to put on some washing, set the roomba going, or put a pot roast in the oven freeing up more time to just chill out later on and I still get everything done.

Never mind the 2 hours a day of commuting time I get back.
