What method of studying Marxism do you use?

Tbh, most people get way too focused on theory, a fairly basic understanding is all you really need. What's more important is participating in organizing workers via direct actions like mutual aid.

Past a certain point communism is more about what you do, not what you think. The world has changed quite a bit since the last successful revolution. The next one will likely be shaped to meet the material needs of the day and the theory that will develop from that has yet to be written.

Goes back way further than that..... The simple fact is that America has never been a progressive nation that ever cared about social equity or equality.

The reason Americans cannot protest like they do in france is because the American police system was molded off of the system the slave owning Confederates developed to fight against potential slave rebellions. A system that marries institutional violence from the state and extrajudicial violence from the populace with a ruling majority to maintain a strict social hierarchy.

What is this "work" you speak of?

Reply in thread

It does depend on the field, but a lot of trades utilize tool making as an entry level educational opportunity to teach students basic skills. One of the first things I built in school for orthotics and prosthetic was a set of calipers used to measure the inside of a prosthetic socket. I still use the calipers and the skills used to create the calipers on a regular basis.

Let us end the stovetop war with the real champ

Reply in thread

Eh, yes and no. You are getting the areas that are in contact with the cooking surface red hot, which with a flat bottom wok is a really small area. Since most woks are made out of thin metal, you aren't getting much heat transfer to the majority of the pan like you would with gas.

Tbh the best option imo for stirfry is just to have an outdoor wok burner hooked up to a propane tank. Unless you have an industrial stove, you aren't getting the pan hot enough on gass either.

There are actually special wok induction plates.

For a stove top, or like a stand alone device?

Nevertheless I don't think that is necessary.

I mean..... It is, especially depending on what and how much food you are cooking.

My wok gets plenty hot where it matters and I make a killer fried rice.

Making a "killer fried rice" isn't the end all be all of wok cooking. I have had plenty of white people make what they claim is great fried rice that is greasy dog shit because they can't get their woks hot enough.

As someone who grew up in Chinese restaurant kitchens..... I can assure you a flat bottomed wok on an induction stovetop is never going to be adequate for traditional Chinese cooking. If there is an induction plate shaped to fit a round bottom wok and you could rock the wok on without damaging it.....that would be a different story.

Until then I'm going to stick to using my outdoor burner, especially considering that the only electric utilities I have access to are already created with natural gas.

The hood is mostly important for capturing the vaporized grease and making sure it doesn't get stuck to the ceiling in the event that your fan isn't strong enough to keep up with sudden flared ups.

The most important thing for air quality is just how many cubic meter/feet your fan can vent put of the room. As long as it is strong enough to create a draft large enough for the size of your room you should be okay. Hood is for larger particles that the fan can't move quickly, the volatile chemicals are smaller and should be mostly going up towards your vent as long as it's placed close enough or is strong enough.

With gas stoves the issue is mainly NO2, however all cooking releases volatile chemicals which typically get worse depending on how oily the food is.

Really the problem is with ventilation moreso how or what you are cooking. Most non industrial range hoods are severely underpowered and installed incorrectly.

I have a relatively small range hood to which installed an industrial inline exhaust fan too. Even though it's small, the motor is strong enough to clear any smoke in the kitchen within a min.

Don't worry I've got copies

The great thing about cops is that their favorite activity while off duty is telling everyone around them they are cops. It's an all consuming lifestyle of being a bully and proud of it 24/7, so much to the point that they don't really understand how to be a normal person.

"Just gotta cover my high and tight haircut with a ball cap and some raybands and my disguise is complete". "Of course I'm not a police officer, do you not see that I am wearing cargo pants and/or a western cut blue jeans?"

The tanks in Cushing, Oklahoma, are hitting bottom. The oil market is about to hit a tipping point | CNN Business

It always amazes me how streamlined the oil and gas industries are, and just how little of their profit actually benefits the communities they operate in. I feel like with most any other industry that amount of capital in an area would at least vicariously create some form of benefits or taxation for the local economy.

Cushing is a complete shithole relic from the oil boom of the 1920s. Pretty much every building they have on main street was built in the 1920s, and have been mostly vacant since the 30's. There billions of dollars of oil being stored in the heart of the town while the people of Cushing grow up and die in poverty. Oklahoma is the most tragic state in the union, it's like if the avarice of America manifested itself into reality as a state.

dont see a reason not to, if its handled well.

Big caveat there. The big problem is you don't really know how people will really handle things until afterwards.

Gov. Tim Walz encourages Minnesotans to film ICE agents for future prosecutions

Reply in thread

It would be nice.... But I think we're running into politicians discovering that the American police state is above the law.

I don't think anyone wants to address the elephant in the room that even if the governor of a state had the balls to order state police to arrest ice agents, they wouldn't obey the order.

Cops in Minnesota have already released press statements that they side with "law enforcement", and you really can't prosecute anyone if you aren't able to detain them in the first place.

States need to start banning police fraternities and unions and firing any cop who isn't willing to follow the rule of law.

Ancient Historians v. Modern Historians

100% of all history from before writing was invented is lost

Not entirely true. Some aboriginal oral traditions have accurately described the Budj Bim and Tower Hill Eruptions that happened 37k years ago, and the dramatic rise in sea levels 7-10k years ago.

The oral traditions of aboriginal tribes is kinda crazy. During the European colonization of australia there are times where you get to see encounters from written documents by Europeans and the history recalled by oral and dance traditions recorded by aboriginals. They tend to match in everything but perspective and often the aboriginal depictions are often more detailed.

All the Nuggets

I can basically guarantee this is just a regular order of nuggets resting on some boxes. I've never worked at a McDonald's, but I have worked a couple fast food joints when I was in school.

You would never have that many nuggets ready to order, that would take like three or four fry baskets, and they would go cold before you sold them. That would also be several pounds of nuggets, and that bag would be soaked with grease and bursting at the seams.

My child is dead

The shit thing is that the American healthcare system is designed to put the blame on the healthcare providers and not the politician, hospital administrators, private healthcare networks, and insurance companies that actually control the cost of healthcare. Media like this just reinforces this and errodes what little public trust we still have with the providers.

I am a provider specializing in orthopedics and rehabilitation, and I have literally no ability to tell you how much my care cost, or how much money the hospital is making from my own labour. That's unless I break the law and just treat you for free and write the appointment down as a consultation, which I do as much as I can get away with.

Healthcare doesn't pay the way it used to, very few specialties make an obsesne amount of money compared to the time you spend on education, and the time you spend at work. If your goal is to make a lot of money, there are a lot easier fields of study with much higher returns than healthcare.

Most physicians nowadays make slave wages until they are 30, even longer if you do a fellowship. Then you spend another decade paying off your student loans. Most physicians graduating now won't really make anything until their 40s, and so you have about 20 years if you don't burn out to make enough to one day retire. At the peak of their career in your 40s, the average MD is pulling in 250-300k and working 55-60 or more hours a week at a hospital. Meanwhile a person with an MBA is making more with a master's degree with a 9-5 at a bank.

I don't think many people working outside pediatric healthcare really have an understanding about how comfortable healthcare providers are prescribing interventional care.

When diagnosing and treating a patient we come up with a plan of care that is weighted on total outcomes. Now this isn't a perfect system, for example we may not completely understand the potential harm of new medications. However, we are creating the plan of care with the best information we have at the time. Taking potential side effects and weighing it against the potential harm that could occur without any treatment.

I specialize in pediatric orthopedics and rehabilitation....so take anything I say about gender affirming care with a grain of salt. However, the potential outcome for not treating gender dysphoria as I understand it is pretty bad....self harm and suicide are about as bad as an outcome as one could imagine. Now weigh that against the medications that are usually prescribed for gender affirming care which are well known, and most often prescribed without negative effect for a plethora of treatments ranging from precocious puberty, to monitoring rate of which growth plates close.

Hormone replacement therapy has been going on for decades and is very common place at any hospital that atends to pediatric patients. To claim that intervention isn't appropriate for something with a potential total outcome as bad as suicide, based off "kids can't consent" is a ridiculous notion considering that the same drugs are often prescribed to make sure a child doesn't develop a limb length discrepancy after an orthopedic surgery.

There's always been a significant portion of American society that would have much preferred if the US would have intervened in WW2 on behalf of the Nazi instead of the allies. Imo that subsect of our population has never really changed in their belief, they just moderated their language to make their beliefs more digestible.

The amazing thing to me is that Communism has consistently been a dog whistle for these people for generations, being a substitute for a plethora of slurs aimed at a plethora of different people.

They are now attempting to utilize the same defunct laws that their grandparents made to strip away what little power we the people still have. Strange that there are laws against communist political parties but not against fascism.....the actual people we engaged in a totalitarian war against.
