How would you feel about awards on lemmy?

I'm really not looking for a Reddit replica. And um, being rewarded for a good comment isn't really something I need. Or anyone needs. I think getting a cookie for a good comment can be left behind

Edit to add - I should have read the rest of the post more carefully, but I stand by my initial sentiment. Money needs to be funneled into those working hard on this, but I don't know, I don't want more and more Reddit features coming out

I read every word and couldn't have written it better myself. It's a perfect letter to every nasty money hoarding dragon out there...the grinches stuck in time that never reform. Just take and take and take, glad that we rebuild, because it just creates more to take

Been on the internet a long time myself...earliest chat I can remember is something called PowWow? We could see each other type in real time...same thing as the writer though...no bad memories...just kinda talked to whoever :)

People of Lemmy, what’s your horror story?

I have two! I'll stick with the quick gross one for now.

I work on a farm and typically walk around barefoot - it's just easier to get around in general. So I'm in our greenhouse dedicated to tomatoes. It's pretty big, about a hundred feet long and fifty feet wide, and it's late July so this thing is just overgrown with huge tomato plants. But we're a fairly small operation so while there are many plants - about 700 - they aren't exactly strung up neatly. Just a veritable jungle of leaves, branches, green, ripe and rotten tomatoes everywhere. Including the floor.

So I'm in there pussyfooting and tip-toeing through openings of plants trying not to smoosh plants - or significantly worse yet step square into a rotten tomato - when it happens.

SQUISHHHHH

"BLECH!" I spit out recoiling my foot, scrunching my face and looking down, my disgust morphing to horror. Oh, if only I had stepped on a tomato and not a bloated, dead rat.

Is there any evidence that Reddit has suffered at all from the exodus to Lemmy?

Reply in thread

I go back for /nosleep all the time - the quality of the rest of the site has frankly dropped drastically.

People are still rioting so to speak, content just seems weak - as in I haven't been on popular really since I joined lemmy, certainly not in weeks. Who can really trust those that didn't care to be all that interesting?

The politics page is boring. The headlines say nothing. Seriously - maybe subtle now, but clear enough for a good chunk. At the very least, this didn't just go away

Wiping my Reddit account as we speak as the 30th begins to roll on in. Anyone struck by nostalgia?

Someone had posted the idea of unsubbing from everything so the numbers weren't inflated and I thought that was a good idea...so I did one by one and it just sucks, lots of good, obscure communities. Dumb convos. I really loved the politics megathreads especially, since literally no one else in my life carew like me lol

But I just have no interest in going back. And honestly I wasted too much time on Reddit. And Lemmy is my go to, and soon I'll use it for news/info etc without all the absolute timewasting

POLL - Will you stay on lemmy?

Yes I really like this. I've been signing on every night learning how it works. The atmosphere is better, better content, I've been signing on Reddit to watch it burn, I thought I'd miss it and I don't- haven't even gone on today actually

Can't wait to see what /justunsubbed is bitching about lol

I had finally joined Twitter to see if there was anymore political people to find out about. Something like a week later Musk bought it and I deleted it.

I'm not even this huge like omg I hate musk. I don't think I even have musk related comments. I just don't trust big loud billionaires. Especially ones that made big deals about being too broke to help out with internt for Ukraine much longer while flying to moons and buying soapboxes and just generally being shitty

Is it a good idea to enable "show bot accounts" on lemmy?

Reply in thread

Yep, just found it the moment I realized it was a thing in this thread - go to your account settings and you'll find an option to unselect bot accounts

I wish there was a way to just mark bot accounts...like finding out it's a bot doing most the posting in TIL...wtf is that? If the community needs a bot to grow it, perhaps it's not an important community on Lemmy at this time? Perhaps there's another sub that's going to grow more organically? In which we will infact learn something today?

Just want bot-less communities (other than fun/helpful ones that aren't Grond) that aren't headed by greed. Jfc.
