Downsides of Flatpak

Reply in thread

Flatpak is kind of bringing the BSD mindset of base system versus end-user apps to Linux.

What must one not read. The reason is that FreeBSD develop and maintains the whole base system: kernel + system related frontend and because it's a clean architecture. For the isolation they had jails before containers was a thing.

Flatpak was not about sandboxing, this aspect is quite recent. It is a response to how bad the CI-pseudoCD was for Gnome and to build/deploy apps based on gnome-stack easily. For proprietary product, I still have to see it a proprietary product not available outside flatpak..

Don't get me wrong, it's good that Flatpak tackle the sandboxing question that was not what was sold previously. Also, I use official repos and mainly FOSS. Flatpak won't prevent a supplychain attack. So my trust remains the main repos.

Why is porn not allowed on this site

Mastodon was for a while flooded by p0rn and hentai with some very edgy content. That was ridiculous. It was a reason why I left mastodon in the beginning.

My salutations to @nutomic and others mods, that's a crazy idea to provide an open access platform.

what brought you to Lemmy?

The less epidermic censor reaction, especially on these stupid boo-boo words: M$ for microsoft in Linux subreddit might get you in trouble or using inoffensive slur. It does not mean I'd shit everywhere on Lemmy but I just don't like language policing "à la" Demolition Man. :)

  • definitive ban on sight: even ChatGPT would be more nuanced or human I would say. Their argument: pushing agenda and this based on ONE message.

  • You can get banned from /r/linux if you write M$ instead of Microsoft. Knowing what M$ did (and do) to #foss, that's another level of masochism. Probably subbr managed by millennials which don't know history.

Oh the amount of trans/queers propaganda is too much to my taste.

Of course, there are trolls and true bastards (on both ends) but there's a world between not agreeing with someone and hating someone.

People like to be indirect with lgtbq+

I would say people think that there are only saints in LGBTQ* community, there could not have assholes or some having bad soft skills. It's known there are no introverts in the community, noooo. For the other, I could name two asshole LGBT* person: Sarah Sharp (FOSS) and Ellen DeGeneres (People).

So, misunderstands are certainly possible, but often in my experience

In my experience, I have seen more unjustified cancelling than real one and you are, here, doing the same. In no way /u/X77 was saying what you accuse him of.

No longer than yesterday, a person from Beehaw posted an illustration of a rainbow road roller truck driving over people tagged family, catholic, etc... not much of an issue, for you? Or maybe it is but this would have been a ban to MARS not just a "oh, this is not totally right or it is no meant to be blah-blah-blah..".

Well, when you cut off on the nuance, keep a black and white mindset, it's problematic. Remember the : "You are with us or against us"

The problem with The Primeagen is that he seems to want to be comedian. Actually, most of the coder stream. Showing off, joking all the time, inserting sponsor etc....

Better spend your time on actually coding/learning than watching such video which only help their creator (improving their skills, earning money and getting visibility).

Act like Joshuito, do the work.

I am not a tankie. I'm a belgian having nothing to do with ukrainians, not fan of Zelensky and Azov, I don't appreciate the red carpet offer and using my taxes to these persons. No problem to take refugees - not the one with GLA and Q8 cars, but they will have to lining up and after the refugees from countries where NATO was involved!

Pretty simple.
