Try YouTube Premium? Yes | Maybe Later

The problem with ads isn't so much the time, it's all the BS they do to try and grab your attention. I'd rather a minute of peace and quiet than 30 seconds of my computer shouting at me.

That said on that front it's not like the entire YouTube platform is any better.

I love choice. I hate choosing.

You think choosing your Linux distro is bad, imagine having to choose your electricity, water, internet, phone, banking, and insurance provider as well as your local councillor, workplace, school, career, entertainment, childcare, car, house, food, etc.

This "love choice, hate choosing" is a really valuable thing to understand.

If America descends into fascism, does Australia just grin and bear it?

Australia is very limited in how it can move away from America, because the Coalition enthusiastically sells us out to them any chance they can get.

Albanese, by repairing our relationship with China, is putting us on the right track. He can't get out of AUKUS and there may even be advantages to that such as giving Albanese Trump's ear and allowing him to potentially stop a war with China. I don't pay enough attention to what Albanese is doing behind the scenes to strengthen Australia's sovereignty.

New electric bike license scheme to be tested on school-aged riders

Bicycle licensing systems are horrible. They discourage riding and push people to unhealthy and dangerous forms of transport like cars and they give kids bad interactions with police (or in America, gets them sent to El Salvador).

That said, e-bike licensing for under-18's makes a lot of sense. If it applied to all bikes, or to all ages then I'd take issue with it. But under-18's on e-bikes should probably be licensed.

I do take issue with it being a digital-only license. Kids should not have smartphones in the first place, and just imagine losing access to your driver's license because you forgot to charge your phone (or your mobile data plan lapsed).

Benjamin Netanyahu says Anthony Albanese 'betrayed' Israel

Given his reaction, I take that to mean Australia's recognition of Palestine is actually a REALLY big deal. He didn't say this about France and Mexico (two much more powerful countries). I don't get how Australia in particular is so important though.

It's worth noting recognizing Palestine comes with a lot of political risk. Labor prime ministers have been couped twice, and the LNP made a joke of any efforts they tried to improve the country in the following years. These coups both happened for defying US foreign policy.
