I don't have any hope for reddit, but unfortunately, it is stil a very good source of information. Plus some previously established communities cannot be easily replaced, so reddit still has a use for me.

I hope that with time, my old communities will find their way here. Until then, sometimes I need to use reddit to talk to some people and access information.

And this is what makes the whole situation so shitty. All of the popular social media sites suck, but it's not easy to replace them with something new when the majority of the content and community stays there.

In Hungary, one big reason is that the government has all the media coverage, and they basically created a false narrative that if Orbán loses, then a) the previous government will come back and no matter how bad things are right now, it will be WORSE, b) migrants will come and wreak havock, c) our sons will have to go to war (in the last election, the opposition lost a lot of votes because there was a billboard campaign stating that the new PM candidate would send soldiers to Ukraine), d) there will be some kind of woke dictatorship.

People also think that the bad quality of life is mostly the fault of the EU and the previous government (which was in power over a decade ago...), and that it's okay that Orbán and his party steals from them because at least they're "on their side".

The government also provides some help to parents, which people find valuable, so they keep voting for FIDESZ.

Same. I am actually a heathen who enjoyed their new layout and even their app. But I hate to see one person ruin the fun for others, so I left. I thought I was addicted to reddit, so it's a pleasant surprise to see how easily I could move on.

I will still use it to look up old information, or to interact with one specific community that I like (r/hungary), but otherwise, I'll stay on lemmy (and hope that the r/hungary community will choose to migrate here as well).

I have a Motorola Defy, and I love it; I dropped it countless of times, and the screen is still intact. It's a bit bulky and heavy, but I got used to it despite having small hands.
