China closes 3 Tibetan schools in 3 months; threatens language, cultural preservation

Reply in thread

Just clarifying to readers, here: "imperialism" in m-l terms is strictly an extension of capitalist expansionism for economic extraction, and colonialism is an extension of that.

Also: since China can do no wrong Tibet has always been a vassal state of the, wait, what am I saying?

Tankies don't acknowledge that China and Russia are also settler states that have invaded their neighbours and continue to repress and dominate ethnicities and exploit the regional resources.

Humans as planetary parasites

Reply in thread

I think the point of the issue being raised is that we can't sustain 9 billion people sustainably and that means inevitable systems collapse on many scales.

If you replace one industrial system with another that is the same modes of production with different ownership, eco-socio-economic collapse still happens, and humans still share in the massive die-offs we started.

Intensive degrowth and radical production changes might save civilization, but almost noone outside of sf discusses those changes.

Not to argue against the data, but rather its disingenuous presentation: "democracy" is fundamentally interpreted differently by respondents in those regions, which the graph obscures.

Used as such, it's propaganda. The truth (data with context) is much more interesting.

I'm not falling for the bait, talk confederacy stories with other yanks.

False equivalencies to cover for settler state manifest destiny bullshit. I hear the same rhetorical techniques from colonial conservatives and zionists and expat white south africans.

I hear the same rhetoric from conservatives, unironically, about how colonizing the Haida ended their slaving economy. Liberation mythology resulting in totalizing subjugation and annexation.

More settler-state crap. Your talking points invoking another settler-state as example also track.

Well there are so many points of historical and political-economy analysis that fundamentally differentiate the medieval feudalism of the himalayan plateau societies from the colonial chattel slaver system of the early USA that it is too much to address here.

But let's not pretend that Tibet was liberated from a cruel economy and then given a path to self determination and control over immigration. It was annexed and is being settled like other settler-states. If the remnants of all former empires laid claim to their former conquests the world would burn.

Most nation-states have slavery-by-another-name running inside their prison systems, including China. Fuck that weak excuse. Geopolitics and centralized power did this, not that heroic myth that is just a variant of manifest destiny. Slavers liberating slaves, pfft.

Tibet was still feudal at the time. Their liberation, arguably just forced modernization, involved losing regional, cultural, and socioeconomic self determination in an arrangement that very much resembles imperial or colonial exploitation and political suppression. Slavery of the entire polity to replace slavery of the poor, if you will.

Just another nation-state doing what statists do.

Jellyfin to quadruple their prices following Plex's price increases

No, really. We don't actually need your money. At least, not here and now.

We have over $24,000 in the bank, and with average monthly expenses of only ~$600, that's over 40 months (3.3 years) of runway! So, we have plenty of money for the near future.

Thus, at this time, we want you to seriously consider donating to the authors of Clients you use, instead of (or in addition to) the main project. Client support is the hardest part of the Jellyfin ecosystem to keep going, and most of them are maintained by only a single person or very small team.

So give that applause-cash to a jellyfin client dev!

The Canadian Takeover: Why Trump's Annexation Goal Could Backfire Spectacularly

Fukan hell, have to repeat this:

Canada is twice colonized, by brits and yanks. We feel it. We joke and gripe about it. We mostly put up with it and it's hard to explain to outsiders or newcomers, but especially to americans, who do not see themselves as colonizers and scoff at the notion.

But do not underestimate how a hundred years or more of threats (yes the latest bullshit is nothing new really) and dismissive subtle put downs and cultural erasure just gets under your skin.

It winds up being a cliché that we define ourselves in opposition to the USA.

To be Canadian is to NOT be American, no joke. And we are proud.

So stop fucking speculating or wondering or talking like it will ever happen. We will jihad the shit out of you if you invade.

“…for some reason…”

The reason is the same as all fascist takeovers. The coup works slowly, then suddenly. We are in the acceleration phase, it’s ramping up, just as they said it would in the Project 2025 documents.

I REPEAT: THIS WAS ALL ANNOUNCED BEFOREHAND. Plus, history explains.

The script is to combine a shock and awe campaign of massive change on so many fronts that no one could possibly resist them all, and to demoralize and deflate opposition.

Once this phase is complete, the power thieves will have sufficiently infiltrated the monopoly on violence (military and policing management) and the bureaucratic and technocratic key elements will be gutted or loyalized, so that a full coup can occur. Full control of media, a massive apparatus of repression and surveillance, and a hot mess of mistrust throughout society.

Interpersonal and community relations will be broken and replaced by dependency on authority for guidance and morality and information. Rights will be crushed and perverted. Power and money will only flow to the top, and poverty will become the norm.

US international influence will contract and enemies will be constructed. Blame Canada.

Just a warning though, when you folks are finally conscripted to invade northwards, we have a lot of methods and welcoming gifts to make it regrettable, and people here are getting prepared. I’d dodge the draft, when it comes, if I were you.
