Or maybe there's a misunderstanding of how charms work.

In neither of Sylvester's and Justus' side stories have they mentioned communications or secret communication methods so it's anyone's guess. But I really don't think Syl has any special communique going on because he's completely unaware of the happenings in Ahrensbach.
