A Reddit post promoting the Fediverse that actually gained traction (and Reddit deleted the top comment for promoting Lemmy)
It made me make an account here. I also convinced the group chat to move to signal last night.

Decentralized Social Media Is the Only Alternative to the Tech Oligarchy

So long as it is humans posting this will be a problem. The benefit of a federated system is that you can't compromise the person at the top and then everything collapses.
I just jumped on here today (from seeing this article on Reddit) but my understanding is that the advantage is that the CEO can't decide he wants to suck authoritarian cock and destroy our ability to discuss and/or organize.
(Admittedly I joined the biggest server I could find so I kind of violated that idea as well).

The "you are personally responsible for climate change" was always a scam. It is the big corporations that are responsible.

If it is linked to the Internet then it'll be hit by crawlers. Their "trap" isn't any how many show up but how long each bot stays on their individual site.

To truly work we would need to negotiate a split of the nukes, military, and other federal assets. The is no way this would happen peacefully.

A bot can do that and do it at scale.
I think we are going to need to reconceptualize the Internet and why we are on here at all.
It already is practically impossible to stop bots and I'm a very short time it'll be completely impossible.

AOC to skip Trump’s inauguration: ‘I don’t celebrate rapists’
Reply in thread
The issue was that Hilary didn't have any strong defenders.
Trump has proven that being hated isn't fatal to politics so long as there are others who love you.
Americans want passion and someone who is willing to fight for them rather than the status quo.

If it gets posted, then you upvote, and it gets banned later they'll issue a mass warning to everyone that up voted out before the ban.

The issue, as I see it, isn't that they liked his policies or wanted to move right. What the public wanted was change, some drastic move away from the system we have. The Democrats explicitly campaigned on maintaining the current world order.
So when we, rightfully, said that Trump will destroy America, may who aren't engaged with politics thought that was a good thing.
Look how much the country embraced Luigi even though he was pure destruction (i.e. killing someone with no plan on how that would fix anything). We need Luigi energy with a real plan to fix the country. We need a new Roosevelt and AOC seems the best fit for the job.

Your last sentence highlights the problem. I can have a bot that posts for me. Also, if an authority is in charge of issuing the certificates then they have an incentive to create some fake ones.
Bots are vastly more useful as the ratio of bots to humans drops.
