What quote from a movie is instabtly recognisable?
"English, motherfucker! DO YOU SPEAK IT?!"

Why do people self-harm?
From a medical point of view, self-harming, or "cutting", releases endorphins. It can be a very powerful and addictive habit that is hard to break.

Do Redditors see Lemmings the same way Windows users see Linux users?
I would be willing to bet a lot do not even know and/or care about Lemmy

The sad truth for all of us
Awww, you are not a whore! Whores get paid.
What you are is a karma slut. :P

LOL, I was just permantly banned from /r/metalmemes for referring to transphobes as "cunts".
...And you're on an instance called "aussie zone". Isn't cunt practically a term of endearment down there?

Against Lemmy Karma
You know something? Until you mentioned it with this thread, I hadn't even noticed that karma wasn't a thing here. That is how useless the karma system is.
I say let the community mostly manage itself through the voting, so the mods can only step in for the really bad stuff.

What is the weirdest area of the Fediverse you have found yourself in so far?

The Fediverse: either leave now or stay and get weird! lol

should locking and forced "merger" of communities be allowed?
I don't think that's fair at all. Lemmy is still in it's infancy and completely autonomous from Reddit and it's mods. If they want an Android sublemmy on a different instance, then that is their right and their prerogative, but they have ZERO authority to step into an already thriving community and try to take it over or shut it down.
I'm trying to get an AskLemmy clone off the ground right now, and if an AskReddit mod stepped in and told me to close down, I'd politely tell them to stick where the sun doesn't shine.

Will we look back at today's "go green" initiatives as stupid and inadequate?
I gave up hope when I learned that the blue and green recycle bins in my area are really only there to make the consumer feel better about how much we waste as a society. A lot of the stuff we put in those bins still just winds up in a landfill.

What are some good hobbies/interests for someone in their mid thirties to pick up?
Never too old to learn a musical instrument. You can pick up an acoustic guitar for cheap at a pawn shop.
Learning how to code is a good one that can be done either free or very cheaply and doesn't require a lot of computing power when starting out. All you need is a text editor and Google.

This place has become a ghost town
Now all we have to do is wait for Reddit to screw up again for the next wave of new users!

What are some Redditisms that Lemmy needs to avoid?
Reply in thread
Sometimes the question isn't about the answer but about the interaction.

Having a rule that no one in the fediverse can do something is going to be unenforceable.
That's a really good point.

titan times at r*ddit
I go on Reddit for one sub and one sub only. Other than that, I don't care about the site. Notifications are blocked and I've hidden my bookmarks from myself.

Do I understand correctly that I have to subscribe to 5 different NoStupidQuestions on 5 different instances?
You don't have to if you don't want to. Subscribe to the one you like best, and help grow that one.
Personally, I find myself only subscribing to and browsing communities on the local instance. The idea of the Fediverse is cool and all, but it's just way too much information for one person to process.

Is it really a mass exodus? And is it really a mass exodus to lemmy?

The Great Digg Migration was way bigger and Digg was never the same after that. If Lemmy gets a couple more big waves from Reddit, it could mean the end for Reddit as it currently is.
