My Petition to Save Alto HSR

My Petition to Save Alto HSR Hey transit folks! 👋 Canada is still the only G7 nation without high-speed rail, and Ontario's support for Alto HSR is on the line.

We launched a petition urging Ontario to stay committed to HSR, drop unnecessary YTZ airport expansion, and offer fair financial stakes for affected farmers.

Please sign & share to get HSR built:

I'm open to feedback on the petition, I've already implemented some changes based on feedback from other forums. Here's the most recent draft:

Long-Time Linode User Considering Hostinger VPS – Is It Worth the Switch?

cross-posted from: https://lemmy.world/post/27036657

Hey everyone,

I’ve been using Linode for a long time and have always been happy with their service. The performance is solid, and their tech support has been great whenever I’ve needed help. However, I’ve started to feel the pinch with their pricing—it’s definitely on the expensive side.

Recently, I decided to try out Hostinger’s VPS offering to spin up a Bluesky PDS and see how it compares. So far, I’ve had a good experience with their tech support as well, but I’m curious about the bigger picture.

Has anyone here used both Linode and Hostinger VPS? If so, how do they compare in terms of:

  • Performance (CPU, RAM, disk speed, etc.)
  • Uptime and reliability
  • Ease of use (control panel, setup, etc.)
  • Value for money

I’m especially curious about how Hostinger manages to charge so much less than Linode. Is there a catch, or is it just a different business model? If you’ve used both, do you think Hostinger is a better option overall, or is Linode worth the extra cost?

Would love to hear your thoughts and experiences!

Thanks in advance!

Help Repurposing an Old Computer Case for My Raspberry Pis

cross-posted from: https://lemmy.world/post/24140532

Hi everyone!

I’m planning to repurpose an old computer case to house a few Raspberry Pis and could really use some advice.

First, I’m trying to figure out the best way to mount the Raspberry Pis inside the case. Are there any good DIY solutions, or are there premade mounts designed for this kind of project? I want them to be secure but accessible if I need to make changes.

Next, I’d like to power all the Pis centrally. Is there a way to do this efficiently without using separate power adapters for each Pi? I’ve heard of some solutions involving custom power supplies, but I’m not sure where to start.

I’m also thinking about cooling. Would the case’s old fans be sufficient, or should I add heatsinks or other cooling methods to each Pi? I want to make sure everything stays cool, especially if the Pis are running intensive tasks.

Finally, what’s the best way to handle I/O? I’ll need to route HDMI, USB, Ethernet, and other connections out of the case. Are there panel kits or other ways to organize the cables neatly?

I’d love to hear your suggestions or see examples if you’ve done something similar. Thanks in advance for your help!
