Transparency in Yakuake

I've started using Yakuake as a terminal recently. The only thing that's bothering me is the fact, that the window background doesn't actually get transparent even though I enabled the corresponding setting. I found some older mentions of this, but no solution so far.

I'm using Plasma 6.2.5 and Wayland, anybody got an idea what might be wrong? Anybody got transparency working?

Does somebody want to take over this community?

Hi folks. Lately, more and more I have been using Jellyfin to access my music collection alongside my other visual media. Im thinking about retiring my Navidrome server and for that reason would like to transfer this community over to someone who's interested.

There's nothing to do, basically. I did not have to do any moderation here. I will not close this community, if there's no one available, so don't worry. But I think it would be reasonable to have an actual Navidrome user be in charge here.

Shoot me a message, if you're interested. Preferably with a few words on your Navidrome usage.

What are good harddrives to use with servers

I have quite an extensive collection of media that my server makes available through different means (Jellyfin, NFS, mostly). One of my harddrives has some concerning smart values so I want to replace it. What are good harddrives to buy today? Are there any important tech specs to look out for? In the past I didn't give this too much attention and it didn't bite me, yet. But if I'm gonna buy a new drive now, I might as well...

I'm looking for something from 4TB upwards. I think I remember that drives with very high capacity are more likely to fail sooner - is that correct? How about different brands - do any have particularly good or bad reputation?

Thanks for any hints!

Jellyfin getting invalid metadata for tv shows

Hi folks,

I'm in the process of setting up Jellyfin. The basic setup is easy enough (I'm using docker compose), but I can't make it recognize tv shows properly. The metadata lookup works for movies, though.

For tv shows, it returns a (seemingly) random tv show and assigns it to all tv shows in my library. So I end up with many instances of the same show in the UI. If I change the metadata source from TheMovieDB to TheTVDB I end up with a different show, but with the same result: Every show in my library is assigned to the same invalid metadata.

I can select shows and manually identify it, but that's really cumbersome for a big libary.

If also tried the same with Emby and I don't get the same error there.

I've also tried to but a tvshow.nfo file into folders to help the lookup, but it doesn't seem to be recognized at all.

I know I can put metadata on the folder name of a series (like the show id of themoviedb), but I really don't want to do this, as I have another mediaserver server (Kodi) the same library to my Smart-TV. It would mess up that libary - also: Emby seems to be able to do the lookup correctly, so why wouldn't Jellyfin?

I know about this page: https://jellyfin.org/docs/general/server/media/shows/

My library is mostly structured this way:

Show_name/
Show_name/S01
Show_name/S01/S01E01.mkv

(I don't think the "S01" part is the problem, I tried to rename to "Season 1" without success)

Any ideas what could be the problem here?

Early Skunk Auto Woche 9

Reset cover cache

Hi folks. Some rightwing shithead uploaded an incorrect cover to LastFM for a song in my library. The cover is gone on LastFM now, but my Navidrome still displays the invalid one. There's probably caching in place in Navidrom - but how can I reset this cache? I know I can delete the cache directory, but is there a more targeted way to do this?

Early Skunk Auto - Woche 4

Hallo fellow growers!

Get notified on Mastodon for new Github releases

I'm selfhosting several services, mostly based on docker containers. Many of these are managed on Github and publish releases there. What annoys me is that I regularly miss updates.

I'm also quite active on Mastodon so I thought it would be handy to have a bot automatically scanning for new github releases and posting a new toot for every new release.

The bot can be configured to scan multiple different github repositories and publish to different mastodon accounts.

I have set up accounts for:

https://mastodon.social/@navidrome_releases
https://mastodon.social/@vaultwarden_releases
https://mastodon.social/@dockerpihole_releases
https://mastodon.social/@tempo_releases
https://mastodon.social/@unifidocker_releases

You can use the notification feature of Mastodon to get a notification, whenever a new post is published. Just follow an account and hit the little bell icon on its profile page.

Here's the code, if someone is interested in that:

https://codeberg.org/ryan_harg/github-releases-bot

Is this something that you people find useful? Which other services would you like to see covered in that way?

Get notified about new Navidrome releases

Since I regularly miss new Navidrome releases I have created a bot that automatically checks Navidrome's github page for new releases and publishes to a Mastodon account if a new release is available.

You can follow the account here: https://mastodon.social/@navidrome_releases

Pro tip: If you click the little bell icon on its profile page, you'll get a notification for every post.

Navidrome 0.51.0 is available

Available since almost two weeks:

"New in this release.

⚠️ BREAKING CHANGE: This release removes the Last.fm shared API-key, as previously announced here. If you use any Last.fm functionality (scrobbling, biographies, album descriptions), please check the documentation on how to create your own API Key, it is free and should only take you a couple of minutes. NOTE: Remember to re-enable scrobbling after changing the API Key and restarting the server.

In this release we focused on support and compatibility with OpenSubsonic, increasing the overall user experience when using a compatible Subsonic client. Click here for the full list of what is implemented and what is missing for now.

NOTE: Even though this release does not force a full rescan, you should do it at your discretion, to import more tags available in the scanner, ex: structured lyrics."

Tagging your music collection

I'm using MusicBrainz Picard for tagging my music library and I'm not unhappy with it. Yet, sometimes it feels a bit clunky and I'm wondering if there are other good tools out there. What do people use? What are the major pros of these tools? Let's collect some recommendations here. I'm Linux based, but for the benefit of others don't restrict yourself!
