Part of the cost of having integrity in this case is needing to be patient. Reddit and Twitter didn't build the communities you are lamenting overnight. It's been two days for Reddit and less than a year for Twitter.

As for the content, nothing is stopping individuals from removing or exporting their comments. There are automated tools that will do this for you with very little effort. Reddit doesn't own the content and neither do the mods.

FYI: Mastodon is also part of the Fediverse, so you may see content from there show up on Lemmy/Kbin, and vice versa.

Federation is a two-way connection. Beehaw shut off the incoming stream, essentially, so anyone commenting or posting on spaces from that instance will not be seen by users logged into Beehaw. However, the outgoing stream is still active so anything posted there that you subscribe to or visit from another instance can still be seen. Users on other instances can even comment in those threads, but users on Beehaw would not see those comments.

For me it helps to think of the instance you are logged into as the place you trust the most. Content from other sources can always come in, but you can choose to simply not see things you don't want. This is a fundamental part of how the Fediverse works, for better or worse.

Workers at over 150 US Starbucks stores to strike over Pride decorations

Reply in thread

Target and Starbucks are (understandably, IMO) bowing to violent threats against their employees and customers. There's not enough nuts out there to make a boycott actually impact their profit margin, and if there was it would be obvious to the other side that would probably more than offset any effort. Rainbow Capitalism wouldn't exist if that wasn't the case.

But there are enough nuts out there to make good on their threats of violence. We've already seen those threats carried out many times, so it's not just some hypothetical possibility.

The recent criticism of Linus Tech Tips, explained

Reply in thread

The whole 'entertainment' angle is so ironic when considering what LMG is trying to become and how much money they are spending on that plan. They want to be seen as experts with objective, reliable data, but can't afford $500 of employee time to test things properly?!

This sure is a blow to that desired reputation.

Yeah, but small correction: Beehaw only defederated from two specific instances of Lemmy, not the entire system. If you were engaging with a Beehaw community from lemmy.one or other instances that Beehaw is still federated with, everyone sees everything on both sides.

Also, if the Beehaw user really wanted to engage with the lemmy.world or other defederated instances, nothing is stopping them form creating an account on that instance (or any other instance federated with the desired community) and commenting or posting from there.

Nexus Games response to Linus's statement. Addresses criticisms and reveals lies told in statement.

Very disappointed with Linus and his whole perspective in this situation. He has consistently chosen to prioritize the business, and specifically the need for high volumes of content, over everything else. Likely part of that is to cover the enormous expense of building out Labs, but what is the point of that investment if the company culture behind it does not actually care about quality testing standards?

Setting aside "trust me bro" and the data accuracy problems, everything about the Billet Labs story is bad for LTT and Linus specifically. His constant and sole focus on the relatively minor cost is obnoxious, but it also reveals what is really motivating his decisions. The only good things I can say about his leadership instincts are that he seems to defer (sometimes) to his wife's better judgement, and on a similar note has finally given over the CEO duties to an actual adult, but now I wonder if it's too late for any of that to matter.

I have unsubscribed and won't be watching any LMG videos until I hear things have improved, but even then I'm not sure I'll ever enjoy seeing Linus himself in a video again.

which is why they used the wrong video card

Something that has stuck with me from the original video is how Linus reacted to his own employee when finding out they used the wrong card. He immediately took the guy to task for not realizing it was a 4090 instead of 3090TI. So they are incompetent with tech on top of being incompetent with normal communication/logistic stuff.

And these are supposed to be the experts?

GOP Senator Admits Biden Bribery Tapes Might Not Exist After All

Reply in thread

I have go problem seeing Biden go to jail IF he did crimes.

100%. This is not even controversial or hypothetical: just point to all the Democrats clamoring for the return of Al Franken.

Oh wait, nobody ever talks about him? Even though he was unfairly sacrificed and railroaded as a political ploy by the GOP to try and undercut a movement they feared? And even himself appears to understand that's sometimes the price of democracy, even if it sucks and he didn't really deserve to be cancelled?

That's all the proof anyone should need that "both sides are the same" is total fiction.
