Curious how they expect this to work for people who aren't even "paying" [with money or data] Meta users. Those people who never signed up for any of their services yet are still being tracked across websites via those social sharing buttons and the like. Are they supposed to pay Meta to not hoard their data from all the other websites, despite never setting foot on a Meta site?

Torrents manage this without any extra tech. Just grab the .torrent file, and only select the files you have space for. Download them then seed, and get your 150 friends to do different files. If I then go to download a file that's in your batch, the download will happen from your server (and whoever else is seeding these files), and if I go to download a file that's on one of your 150 others' server it'll download from there.

Yeah pretty much. The privacy invasion of ad companies is terrible for sure, but the whole seeing ads all over the damn place in the first place is also annoying enough that even if they were somehow completely tracker-free I would still block them.

Acktually a fair few counties in the US have gone bankrupt building car-centric infrastructure, because it's ruinously expensive and doesn't even come close to being covered by the taxation they put on cars. Mass transit and bike infrastructure costs are miniscule in comparison and sometimes even actively gain money.

You're 100% right. Linux itself is perfectly capable for a lot of users (note I didn't say all users, or even most users, before people start coming at me with their weird edge case that requires Windows) but the community of both users and devs do absolutely nothing good to get people on board.

As well as all your points (which I 100% agree with), my other issue with these dongles is simply that they stick out way more. If I buy a pair of headphones with an angled connector, I can plug them in and wrap the wire a little bit and then when the phone's in my pocket, the wire takes up basically no space and doesn't get smushed about by my leg.

With a dongle, I need an extra couple inches of vertical space, and because the wire/connectors are sticking directly out the phone, they get bent all over the place. Absolutely crap design. Yes 90 degree USB-C to headphone jacks exist but they take up way more space than just a headphone jack.

Pipewire's got fantastic JACK support. You can even run standard JACK control GUI's like Carla on top of it and expect them to work just like they would on regular JACK

External Bluetooth controllers are always a pain and those clip-on ones are always awful. Plus it's splitting the battery life between two devices, nothing bugs me more than using my phone for everything only to be shocked that the battery dies twice a day.

I'm a dispatcher (not in the USA) and our managers start flipping out and running round like their heads are on fire if the wait time reaches 30 seconds. If there's more than 3 calls in the emergency queue then they sit down and take them themselves (If you've ever worked in any call centre at all, emergency or not, you'll know shit has to really hit the fan before management will consider doing this!)

Usually high queue time/numbers are just multiple calls for the same incident (think large RTC's or very public assaults/stabbings right in the middle of a heavily trafficked city centre) so we can get that queue down very quickly, especially as 99% of the time any call after the initial one will simply be "we're already aware and we've got crews en route, bye".

These were my personal favourite, but they're awful for normal bean usage. The sauce was like what you'd get on a fancy Italian pizza, and the beans themselves were massive. So, delicious but no good with a full English or on toast.

Also if you look at the photo of the tin pyramid, they're the little jar you can see up front. So not only are the jars mad pricey, they're also tiny.

As someone who had to switch away from mastodon.art because my pool of federated instances was getting so small it felt pointless to be on a federated platform... I'm SO glad Lemmy takes this approach. I don't mind my instance having some control over who they federate with (I have zero interest in seeing actual nazi comment or CP for example) but if my instance blocked lemmy.world or another similarly large one I'd definitely be a bit screwed (mastodon.art defederated mastodon.social for a time!)

The H&B ones were absolutely awful. They were loaded up with all kinds of herby flavours that just ruined it. Like someone had just haphazardly emptied their spice shelf into there without caring about which ones are actually going to work.

They were also one of the more expensive ones on the list!

ARM boards are just a pain to use right now. There's always some stupid quirk or driver problem and that's if you even manage to find an up to date image for your chosen OS that works (because I can just about guarantee the 'generic ARM' one won't). Feels like every few months someone announces something that'll make all these problems go away yet here we are.
