Why Defederating from Facebook/Meta is So Important
My gut tells me we should defed all corporate instances as a matter of policy. Our uniqueness is at jeopardy , think of threads like the borg.

let's cut the "Reddit" circle jerk and start actually making content

I have , amazingly I decided to start two communities, something I have never done before despite the fact I had a 12 year badge and thousands of karma at the other place.

This is so Elon playbook , send in the lawyers and see what happens. TBH these games are irreverent to normal people, lets de-fed from any corporate instance and just build a better community

How do pre-reddit influx lemmy members feel?

I guess that is well worth keeping in mind , coming from the cesspool that is reddit everything seems so polite here by comparison.

There is a thread in your sub about this here I added the text from this thread too it. There is also a link to Kbin It is clear that the people in charge of Reddit are heartless and at this point really really worried because you do not start doing this shit until it feels like you have no other options and you are scared. Time for us to double down.

[db0] Reddit is a dead site running
IMO it is like the foundations of the building have been undermined , I do agree with the author , even if reddit looks ok numbers wise the heart and soul has been removed.

Lemmy.world is now the biggest Lemmy instance!

I actually think this is a non-issue , sure it will be a pain for a while but the decentralized model will easily adapt to this IMO. Its not like reddit was immune from bots eh.
An example is how obviously you can spot the bad actors here. I do not think is will be any more challenging indeed I think it will be easier to counter

You’ll be back…
I am just never going back, lemmy has less content of course but the comments on what is here is just a totally different level, reddit just feels dirty and corrupt in comparison,

Climate records tumble, leaving Earth in uncharted territory - scientists
I have just read this entire thread and I have two observations.
1 the "tumble" discussion is unbelievably ironic as the whole public climate discussion has for years been a case of mass distraction IMO.
2 The other central discussion is dominated by someone , clearly a skeptic, and repeatably described as a troll, and although the basic assumptions taken are just factually wrong the context of the consequences discussed are more insightful that the rebuttals.
So currently the power and money is dominated by industries that do not want to change and they frustrate attempts to create meaningful global change. What change has occurred has been when money and power wish that change. Political courage will be needed to make things happen with any sort of urgency IMO

Yep, sometimes this is happening to me I just open another tab and often the circle spin is irrelevant and the post or whatever has already been created , seems to be a issue with the system.

Theory: the only reason Meta cares about the fediverse / ActivityPub is so that threads isn't labeled a "gatekeeper" under the EU's new "Digital Markets Act"
I guess IF the fediverse decided universally not to fed and moved the code away from threads adding features say meta did not want, then they would be seen as de-facto gatekeeper again.
