Angry devs vow to flee GitHub Copilot as metered billing takes hold

I'm sorry, did everybody else not see this coming from miles away? This is the private equity playbook.

  1. Make a service so cheap as to seem to good to be true to attract customers.
  2. Gain a loyal base of people
  3. once theyre locked in, squeeze them for all they're worth.

When something is too good to be true, you ALWAYS have to be ready to either jump ship, massively change how you do things, or pay through the nose.

Biden has decided to keep Space Command in Colorado, rejecting move to Alabama, officials tell AP

This makes sense, from both a manpower and long term stance.

First, Colorado is going to survive climate change much better than Alabama will. Not having to do PT at 2am because that's the only time it's cool enough is kinda nice.

Second, since Alabama keeps rejecting and making things illegal that the majority of Americans want (e.g. Abortion, porn), moving there doesn't make sense for the military. When you have to ship people to other states for medical care, it's better to just build in other states in the first place.

AI driver: review of Mark Rober's LIDAR showcase

The friendships with LIDAR suppliers aside (always a problem with these kinds of things),

  1. the full self driving wouldn't have saved the wall.
  2. He's telling a story. Disabling autopilot because he's nervous is good storytelling because it's science communication, not science. Its also cause he knows it's super likely to fail.
  3. He did show LIDAR having troubles - the heavy rain. Its just good enough to peak through it to stop the car before it hits the kid. it's just that the self driving ALSO has trouble with this, and in fact worse troubles. LIDAR has trouble in places where the light is going to be blocked, a situation that a pure camera solution on a Tesla is not going to solve. Not unlikely to solve, NOT GOING to solve. In the real world, if light can't penetrate through a thing twice, it's unlikely to only do it once.
  4. Its not supposed to be scientific, it's science communication. Science is testing and retesting. He did one test and called it good.

Yup, LIDAR isn't a silver bullet for every situation to do sensing. But it's a damn sight better than pure cameras. And Musk would have known this if he was a good engineer. But hes not. Hes a spoiled, rich, apartheid-loving, racist asshole that thinks he's a good programmer and engineer.

How do you negotiate with your apartment rental landlord when they are a huge corporation with 500+ properties?

Short term? You probably have some leverage if the upkeep of the stuff is in your rent contract. Try to report them someplace? Idk.

Long term? Form a tenant union and vote for pro-tenant policies, e.g., rent control policies, owner transparency laws, limitations on the number/length of time empty properties can sit, etc. The only way to fight big power is with more-equal power.
