neither community is particularly active. in c/kirby, i'd say there's only two people, including me, who regularly post or comment. i've posted two fanwork-y things to c/kirby; the first wasn't very well received for some reason, the second was reasonably well received. so i don't really know! they're not really big/active enough communities to have a specific stance on fanfiction, i think

but if c/kirby gets more active, i'll do my part in fostering a welcoming spirit towards fanfiction!

hello! tried to post some stuff here from lemm.ee a week or so ago, but there were issues with federation. i'll try to hang around and participate in whatever interesting stuff i see.

i'm a reader, and lately i've mainly been looking at the pokemon mystery dungeon and kirby fandoms (mostly on ao3). though i do have various concepts floating around in my head that i might (but probably won't, at least for the foreseeable future) put down on paper.

thanks! i'm currently going around doing the repost-comments-that-weren't-federated-properly thing. more instance juggling for me! did it for !kirby once, doing it again! hopefully won't have to do it too often in the future!

and hopefully i'll be able to give some good recs for the two fandoms i mentioned! i already see some recs below -- i'll be checking them out later.

anyway, the way crowned transitions into its climax is pretty neat. this is how the song is structured:

intro (0:00-0:12): magolor, the far flung traveler
main (0:12-1:08) {

    magolor, the far-flung traveler (0:54-1:08)
}
repeat (1:08-1:50) {

climax (1:50-2:23): green greens (1:50-1:57); kirby's triumphant return (1:57-2:11)

notice how the repeat of magolor, the far-flung traveler is much shorter than the first time though? instead of letting the adventure begins play out in full and then transitioning into MtFFT, only a short excerpt of MtFFT plays to transition us from the adventure begins into the iconic green greens + triumphant return climax of the song. i think this little modification to the song structure is pretty cool! the rhythm in that little bit is really satisfying in my opinion.

i'm fine with just about any summary that outlines the premise of the fic. i rarely, if ever, encounter a summary that makes me scroll past the fic because of its poor quality. though, of course, having something funny / dramatic in a well-executed way / otherwise interesting certainly helps.

i'm just gonna use this as my place for dumping small observations that don't deserve a full thread

will probably be too preoccupied with another thing to contribute content to c/kirby over the next few days, so have this little thing before then:

here's a thing i learned while making something that i'll hopefully be able to show c/kirby sometime:

the b section of dedede's theme, added in super star, is subtly different in most renditions of the theme (as far as i can tell) in modern games (return to dreamland onward). here's super star's version against star allies's version for reference. by "b section", i mean the 16 measures from the beginning of the timestamp until the point where the song loops.

• the lead-in note to measure 1 (and the more subtle lead-in notes to measure 7) -- only there in the old versions of the theme. in contrast, the lead-in notes to measure 5 continue to be there, and there were never any lead-in notes to measure 3 to begin with. (you can split 0:28-0:40 KSS / 0:57-1:10 KSA into 4 "phrases" (not trying to use that word in the technical music theory sense) -- measures 1, 3, 5, and 7 refer to the first measure of each phrase. first and last phrase have pickup notes only in the KSS version; regardless of version, second phrase never has any pickup notes and third phrase always has pickup notes.)
• the rhythm for the second half of the section -- in particular, measures 9 and 10 [0:40-0:43 KSS / 1:10-1:13 KSA] -- is different.

ah, time, the one thing there absolutely isn't enough of when it comes to reading fanfiction. at least in my experience.

there's a reason i'm willing to put in the work with this reposting business (which i just got finished doing)! growing pains are a "fun" thing, but they're nothing compared to all the good experiences i've had so far with the fediverse.

edit, attempt 2 after kbin did a thing: might as well share some recommendations now! one for each fandom:

kirby: Of Starry Eyes and Geminis (complete, 10 chapters, 76 002 words) takes a deeper look at two chimchilas and how they cope with stuff in the aftermath of kirby and the forgotten land. the only (k or t)-rated fic on ao3 that has kirby/eflilin as a ship -- it actually works quite well! has some very interesting character development.

pmd: Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Reflecting Balance (serebii, ff.net, ao3 -- thanks, tvtropes page!) is a lighthearted adventure featuring a rather colourful cast of characters and a rather unique twist that i won't be spoiling here. doesn't seem to update very quickly (i've only seen one update ever since i found the fic a few months ago), but i'm certainly excited to see more! 63 chapters (though i've only read the first 60, waiting for more updates before i start reading the rest) and 301 470 words so far, along with some bonus content.
