Men in pink collar positions, what's your experience?
I worked as a substitute teacher in elementary ed when I was in grad school.
In that field, it often felt like I would get work purely because of my gender.

Illinois Ends Mandatory Road Tests for Drivers Ages 79-86
I live next to a retirement community, and man, I’d make the age for mandatory road tests even younger.

There's debate if what survived cremation was actually his heart, but she though it was and that's what matters

Did she personally believe it to be his heart?
With something like this, I’d think the meaning/intent behind the symbol matters more.

Since it's Fathers Day, I thought I'd ask. Who was like a father figure to you besides your own, while growing up?
Grandpa on my mom’s side.
Dad’s a pice of shit, but Grandpa was always there for us.

Polo is hockey on horseback. What other sports would be better with the addition of horses?
Donkey basketball is enough of a thing that I’ve seen it played multiple times with my own eyes.
Although it’s mostly for comedy rather than genuine sport.

The unAbomber. Otherwise, I agree.
It’s probably better to read the philosophers Uncle Ted was pulling from (and ultimately failed to understand).
Ellul especially.

For those who don’t know, the guy on the left is a professional wrestler called MJF.
His whole persona is dedicated to being a tool, and he’s pretty good at it. Highlights include telling the world that he’s “better than Moses.”
What I’m saying is that he’s doing a bit in this image. It’s kayfabe.

Why do american white evangelicals love Donald Trump?
I’m an ex evangelical.
To put it in a sentence, they love Trump because the false image they have of him fits the heretical version of Christianity they follow.

Hard work feels great when it benefits you, your community, folks you care about, or even just real people.
It feels fucking awful to work hard when the only people who will benefit are some rich assholes who exploit you.

Somewhere around the majority of people employed in academia are absolutely useless.
I say this as an academic.

I'm an educator and have to tell my students the same lie every day.
Teaching people to be compassionate out of a promise of reward was always a terrible idea. No society has ever really rewarded kindness.
We should be teaching young people that compassion is an act of rebellion against uncaring systems and always has been.

Longevity-Obsessed Tech Millionaire Discontinues De-Aging Drug Out of Concerns That It Aged Him
I’m honestly just deeply interested in this guy every time I hear about him.
Not because I think he’s smart, on to something, or at all worthwhile though.
It’s just…. Kind of morbidly entertaining to watch a man spend so much time and money to deal with an obvious and incredible fear of death.
He’s going to die some day, and probably from one of these things he’s paying for to avoid dying. It’s Qin Shi Huang shit.
And, ya know what? There are some truly wonderful and interesting works of philosophy dealing with his exact problem, but our boy is too much of a tech bro to even consider that someone may have found a way to deal with the fear of death a few thousand years ago.
So, fuck it, burn that cash bud.

Lemmy, what conservative fearmongering do you find laughably incorrect?
That college professors are turning young people into communists.

Microsoft's shady practicies of Office 365 subscription tiers
Individual users can make use of free alternatives pretty easily, but I’m not sure they’re actually the target for the price increase here.
Schools, governments, businesses, and other institutions pay wild amounts to MS every year.
