Alibaba Releases Advanced Open Video Model, Immediately Becomes AI Porn Machine

First off, I am sex positive, pro porn, pro sex work, and don't believe sex work should be shameful, and that there is nothing wrong about buying intimacy from a willing seller.

That said. The current state of the industry and the conditions for many professionals raises serious ethical issues. Coercion being the biggest issue.

I am torn about AI porn. On one hand it can produce porn without suffering, on the other hand it might be trained on other peoples work and take peoples jobs.

I think another major point to consider going forward is if it is problematic if people can generate all sorts of illegal stuff. If it is AI generated it is a victimless crime, so should it be illegal? I personally feel uncomfortable with the thought of several things being legal, but I can't logically argue for it being illegal without a victim.

Works on my machine

There are another important reason than most of the issues pointer out here that docker solves.

Security.

By using containerization Docker effectively creates another important barrier which is incredibly hard to escape, which is the OS (container)

If one server is running multiple Docker containers, a vulnerability in one system does not expose the others. This is a huge security improvement. Now the attacker needs to breach both the application and then break out of a container in order to directly access other parts of the host.

Also if the Docker images are big then the dev needs to select another image. You can easily have around 100MB containers now. With the "distroless" containers it is maybe down to like 30 MB if I recall correctly. Far from 1GB.

Reproducability is also huge efficiency booster. "Here run these this command and it will work perfecty on your machine" And it actually does.

It also reliably allows the opportunity to have self-healing servers, which means businesses can actually not have people available 24/7.

The use of containerization is maybe one of the greatest marvels in software dev in recent (10+) years.

Bumper sticker

This is one of the things that bother me with people being anti-trans. Why the hell do they care? There is nothing, NOTHING that trans people are asking for that bother me, because it does not affect my life. I don't see how it affects theirs either.

There are two things I know little about when it comes to trans.

  1. How to make it fair in sports, but I really don't care for sports. So I haven't researched it. Don't really care if they participate, but I don't take sports seriously anyways.

  2. How to protect vulnerable people from themselves. This is probably contraversial, but I am for giving trans people the treatment they need to transition, or at least make sure it is possible at a later stage by giving hormones / blockers. So that they can transition a bit older.

However (the controversial part) many trans people are vulnerable and also struggle with other issues and operations is often permanent. This is something that I don't believe is easy to decide, I am ignorant here, I trust medical professionals, psychologists, psychiatrists and the trans community to come up with guidelines / practice here. It is however not something that I think politicians should decide, or is competent in deciding.

The only reason I care about point 2 is to protect people from mistakes, not to stop trans people from transitioning!

Thanks for reading my rant 😊

Asylum-seeker sent to Salvadoran mega-prison over autism awareness tattoo, family says

He's from Venezuela not El Salvador. It is not deportation, this is taking a vulnerable innocent asylum seeker and placing him outside of the law in a inhumane concentration camp. The law can no longer reach him!

This is why its not just a bad prison, recommended read: https://www.hrw.org/news/2025/03/20/human-rights-watch-declaration-prison-conditions-el-salvador-jgg-v-trump-case

‘Like a horror movie’: ICE detaining German tourist in California indefinitely

I was at some point wanting to visit the US as a tourist, see the grand canyon etc. The last part of me that wanted to go there has changed the last couple of months.

But even before Trump won, I imagined a couple of horrendous scenarios that could happen based on things I read online. This confirms my worst fears. This does not sound like a safe country to visit. Even as a white cishet man.

Norwegian mass killer Breivik says his attacks were 'necessary' in parole bid

I don't think most people here understand the Norwegian prison system.

We try to rehabilitate people. Having freedoms taken away is the punishment. Not living conditions. We give people opportunities in prison. We give some of the worst people in prison leave (yes, to leave prison) for hours sometimes, if we belive they will behave. Even though we don't trust them to integrate fulltime into society yet. We don't have lifetime in prison, but we have a system for the very worst offenders in which we can imprison someone for an extended period if necessary. And extend it indefininetly, potentially for life, but they get a chance to convince judges to release them once in a while.

When it comes to the article one shared about PS2 / PS3 complaints, it doesn't really matter. We are better than him, we give all people, yes even terrible ones, a decent life. Upgrading his console costs nothing compared to the actual cost of having him imprisoned. What does Norwegians gain by witholding something that inexpensive? If he has a worthy life in prison, that's good. I gain nothing from his suffering. I do however get the satisfaction of knowning that we try not to inflict needless suffering on other humans.

We care about other humans. We imprison to rehabilitate and to protect society until they are rehabilitated. We don't punish to get revenge. Everyone is supposed to get out at some point.

Recently Norway released someone wrongly convicted and jailed for 20+ years. Imagine if he also had to suffer a needlessly horrible sentencing for that time.

Knowing we don't have death sentence and that our prisons give the prisoners a somewhat ok life, gives me comfort. That makes me feel that if I or someone I care deeply about was wrongly convicted I or them would not suffer needlessly.

tax the rich

Everytime I hear arguments against wealth tax, gift tax, property tax or inheritance tax. It's the same argument, it's unfair towards the people who has worked all their life and want to leave their already taxed money to their family.

In Norway we have no inheritance tax and no tax on gifts. Most people have no taxes on homes either. We do have some wealth tax.

My main issue with the arguments against it is that its is lacking imagination. We make the rules, we can decide to make it fair. We can set a limit for when taxation occurs at a really high number. Just so that 98% of Norwegians get zero taxes on these things.

Zero taxes for inheritance up to 1 000 000 euros and then 75% on every euro above. Is possible.

Zero taxes on gifts up to 50 000 euros a year is possible.

No taxes on homes worth less than 1 000 000 is possible.

Bringing wealth with you when you permanently move out of the country is possible for values less than 5 000 000 euros for instance.

Then adjust for inflation every year (like we do with many of our welfare systems)

If we do this we can get rid of the wealth tax that the rich hate so much (because they are disadvantaged owners compared to owners of businesses in other countries)

No regular people will feel these taxes at all, and they make sure that the wealth is distributed over time. It's still possible to get rich, and remain rich. But your children can be rich but not insanely rich.

Exactly what the rates should be is up for debate, but this system is in my opinion a better one.
