Before they changed what numbers they showed, there were karma farmers that specifically posted dumb stuff to rack up the most negative karma score they could. Over time Reddit has done a fair bit of tweaking of what numbers are shown and setting caps or floors in some places.

This isn't special behavior, all posts have a floor of 0. Only comments can have negative scores.

I think someone hasn't been paying attention to the reputation of Facebook. Between Cambridge Analytica, being used to stir civil unrest, spreading Q-anon conspiracy theories to all the boomers, and fostering an entire genocide in Myanmar, Facebook has lost a lot of trust.

I do think it's fascinating that they are hopping on the ActivityPub bandwagon though.

I'm really hoping https://kbin.social/m/folklore takes off, but at the moment that server has disabled federation because they're having trouble scaling up to handle all the new traffic. The creator translates a lot of German folklore into English and seems very passionate about folklore and mythology.

He was indicted and arrested in New York in early April, those charges are for falsifying business records relating to the hush money paid to Stormy Daniels. He lied about the day, but it happened a few days or a week after he said it would. The arrest process was that he showed up at court, pleaded not guilty, and was then released to await trial. No handcuffs, perp walk, or time spent in jail. That trial is scheduled to begin on March 25, 2024.

So far we have Trump plus "sources say" Trump has been indicted over the Mar-a-Lago documents in the news reports, but no officials have put out a statement yet that I have seen.

That's so peculiar. Does anyone even say zip by itself to mean zip code? It should be a phrase replacent, not a word replacement, lest you end up on a weather report telling you to "postcode up your jacket" because it's going to be a chilly day.

I wouldn't call this unpopular because it's disliked, just unknown to a lot of people because I don't think it was marketed much in the US. One of my all time favorite games is Dragon Quest Builders 2. It's got just the right difficulty for me where it's mostly easy with a few challenging boss fights that might take a few tries to master. It's got a nice balance between questing, building, and farming. It's a bit silly, but it gets to be cute and endearing. I love the graphics. You're building in 3D with blocks like Minecraft but it's actually pretty, Minecraft was always too ugly for me to get into it.

I only know about this game because Dragon Warrior/Dragon Quest games were my boyfriend's favorite growing up and it's still his favorite series.

I usually check them out from my library through Libby or on my Kobo reader. I just read e-books these days because my library is a bit far away and not open very often. When I lived in a bigger city, I liked to wander around the library and pick out things that caught my eye on the shelves.

I'm perplexed that this Twitter post is using soy as an insulting description of a fake estrogen scammer when the whole soy uproar originated with right wing fear mongering over the plant supposedly mimicking estrogen and feminizing men. Soy as an insult is transphobia and it seems out of place in a post calling out a transphobic Nazi.

Apart from that, I do appreciate when Neonazis out themselves so they can face consequences for their actions.

They're not entirely done. They just made another arrest this week. Lots of the identified participants still haven't been arrested apparently.

What do you think the smell is made of? If you can smell it, there are all sorts of particulates making it into your nose and particulates in general aren't good for the lungs, especially young developing lungs, whether the smoke causes a high or not. If they can smell it, they're breathing in second hand smoke.

There are places that sell edibles. If you can't make edibles in a way that vents the smell away from your neighbors' apartments, you probably shouldn't be making them in that space.

Maybe this could be made easier if lemmy would automatically replace links to other instances with the equivalent internal links.

I like this idea. A default behavior of loading Lemmy links within your current server would make it much simpler to interact with and subscribe to any linked community. Perhaps the top of the page could have a link to view the page on its original server for people who do want to see the originating server for themselves.

Beehaw is unique in not allowing users to create new communities, you'd have to convince the Beehaw admins to make it (who want fewer, broader communities with more engagement instead of tiny niche communities) or create one on the servers that do allow users to create communities. You can always create it on a different server and share it in a Beehaw community you think is relevant to get Beehaw users to subscribe though.

For a game that's not on your list, Unfathomable is one I've been playing a lot lately. It's a hidden identity game where you're on a ship and the ship's crew and passengers are combating Lovecraftian horrors that keep climbing aboard from the depths while trying not to run out of food and fuel and sanity before you escape. You or one of your companions may turn out to be a cultist who is summoning the dark ones and attempting to sabotage the escape efforts.

I love the Betrayal games: Betrayal at House on the Hill (horror), Betrayal at Baldur's Gate (fantasy), and Betrayal Legacy (legacy horror) for a campaign style version that is linked over multiple sessions.

For anyone who isn't familiar with them, the players build out a map by exploring a building or city one tile at a time, collecting items and buffs along the way and triggering events. After a certain point a trigger is reached when the "haunt" stage begins. At that point, one player typically becomes a traitor with unique abilities or monsters to control and gets the traitor's tome - a book explaining their abilities and win condition. The rest of the group gets a different book explaining what the group must do to survive and what interactions they can do to foil the traitor's plan. There are a bunch of different haunt scenarios in the books and they are chosen based on the last tile revealed and card drawn, so you never know quite what you'll be facing in the end.

I'm getting ready to play 5e with some friends. We were supposed to start last week, but the DM had a migraine and it got postponed. I've only done a one shot before, so this will be my first proper ongoing campaign with progression.

It also happened in 2017 in Georgia on I-85.

Communities are the equivalent to subreddits. I don't think I have seen a board gaming specific one yet, but I also haven't tried to look for one.
