Sure, Waymo’s own numbers should be taken with a grain of salt; and obviously they will publish numbers that will make them look good. I’m with you there.

But at the same time, Waymo and other robotaxi companies are required by law to report any small accident (which makes sense, we want them to be safe)

Compared to human drivers, the IIHS estimates that about 1/2 of all property damaged and about 1/3 of injuries never get reported, for various reasons. So that skews the distribution in the other direction.

IMHO I see no reason to doubt Waymo’s numbers. Obviously, a machine, given enough training, will perform much better than a human. It never gets tired, it has a much larger training regime than humans, it won’t get distracted by a phone call, and it has better sensors. I’m a bit surprised that this point is highly contested.

I get that the economy side of it can be controversial (are we going to a world where no one owns cars? Is all the surplus going to alphabet? Etc), but safety seems like a clear win, to me.

If you haven’t read the article, it’s 0,3% vs. a projected 0,2%. IMHO hardly worth a headline. But hey…

Compared to human drivers, Waymo cars are involved in an order of magnitude fewer car accidents, though.

That’s a very good indicator that taxing them is a good idea.

But the headline is needlessly inflammatory. There is no law yet; and google essentially is saying please please don’t implement it, it totally doesn’t make sense.

Don’t get me wrong, the EU should still implement it. And once it is law; Google will also comply.

You had someone to take care of you 24/7, always there for you. Cleaning, cooking, buying shit, etc. your parents were managing the household so you could learn.

Look at children that didn’t have such support - they would perform much worse, usually.

Ever went on a business trip or conference and stayed in a hotel? You will be surprised how much you get done in one day. Except the hotel can’t provide you with love :’)

The next few years will bring a massive collapse in government services (the USA is starting) for ordinary people, because that is one of the last things that the rich can still squeeze out.

After that, there will be only the ultra rich and the destitute poor left; and the ultra rich will only be able to take from each other.

This will mean war, and they will send you all into it.

Die gesetzliche KK in Deutschland funktionieren genau so wie sie sollen, und sind quasi ein Paradebeispiel für guten Kapitalismus.

Die Leistungen der KK sind alle reglementiert, Ma kriegt bei jeder quasi das gleiche (plus minus ein paar bonusprogramme); die KK können aber untereinander konkurrieren indem sie effizienter werden. Wenn eine KK nur 80% der Mitarbeiter von einer anderen braucht, weil sie zb ein besseres IT System hat, dann ist sie halt billiger.

Der Kunde kann die günstigste wählen und hat quasi keine Nachteile.

Leute meinen oft, wenn wir KK zusammenlegen, werden die billiger, aber das is Quatsch. Wer in nem Großkonzern gearbeitet hat, weiß, dass dort alles unglaublich bürokratisch und unflexibel ist; und mit weniger Konkurrenz gibt’s auch keinen Grund mehr sich zu verbessern. Und wenn’s am Ende nur noch riesige KK gibt, haben die quasi Monopolstellung (too big to fail) und können dann der Politik noch härter die Preise diktieren.

Also: falsche Baustelle, lieber die privaten abschaffen, das macht 1000x mehr Sinn.

Was hier noch nicht erwähnt wurde, und der richtige Kicker ist:

Es wird nun im Grundgesetz verankert, dass alle Ausgaben aus dem neu geschaffenen Sondervermögen tatsächlich zusätzliche Investitionen in Klimaschutz, Infrastruktur und Wirtschaft sein müssen.

Dass Klimaschutz den Weg ins Grundgesetz mit einer Unterschrift von Merz findet, hätte ich in meinen wildesten Träumen nicht erdacht.

Richtig so, Klimaschutz ist nämlich Aufgabe der Politik. Dass das Aufgabe des einzelnen sei, ist eine Kampagne, die letztlich auf BP (oder war es Shell?) zurückzuführen ist.

Klimaschutz is das einzige, wo irgendwie die Bürger meinen, es selbst in die Hand nehmen zu müssen. Man überlege sich nur mal, wenn man dies anwendet auf andere Problembereiche.

Sollten wir alle die Ärmel hochkrempeln und 2-3 Haushaltshilfen einstellen um die Wirtschaft anzukurbeln?

Sollte jeder sich fragen ob er persönlich in die Ukraine reist um dort gegen putin zu kämpfen?

Etc.

Völlig lächerlich, das sind politische Aufgaben, die von der Politik zu verantworten sind.

Nur beim Klimaschutz wird die Verantwortung auf den einzelnen abgewälzt. Das macht keinen Sinn, und deprimiert nur!

Meh, die Linie verläuft zwischen Arm und Reich, nicht zwischen alt und jung. Manchmal überlappt sich das, aber gar nicht so häufig.

Die Wirtschaftsleistung ist in den letzten Jahrzehnten ist aberwitzig gestiegen, aber was sieht der normalo davon?

Wir hätten easy genug Produktivität um die Rentner, Kranken, Arbeitslosen, und alle anderen die Hilfe brauchen zu versorgen. Wir müssen uns nur die produktivitätsgewinne der letzten 40 Jahre wieder zurückholen.

On a basal level, everyone understands that the economic status quo can not continue. Living standards continue to fall regardless of who is in power, and so it is inevitable that people will demand some sort of drastic change.

The loudest voice promising change is the alt right.

The second loudest voice is us, taxing the rich. It must be done, and we need to do all we can to become the loudest voice. We have several more years until the elections in eg. UK and Germany. Let’s do it. Let’s tax the rich.

Ich weiß auch nicht wie sich das meme hält, dass die CDU am meisten Wirtschaftskompetenz hätte. Das einzige, was die CDU kann, ist sich bei irgendwelchen Dinnern die Taschen von Konzernlobbyisten vollstopfen zu lassen; das wird offenkundig mit Wirtschaftskompetenz verwechselt.

Die progressiven Parteien müssen aufzeigen, dass die CDU (und AfD) wirklich 0 Ahnung von Wirtschaft haben. Das wird auch nicht schwer, weil es ja stimmt und weil sie nicht in der Lage sein werden, die Wirtschaft zu verbessern.

Der Fehler, der nicht gemacht werden darf, ist, in Wirtschaftsfragen einen „CDU light“ Kurs zu fahren (wie die SPD es macht?).
