Seeking Clarity on Moderation and Rules

Goal highlights were always an important part of r/soccer. Having them posted within seconds of a goal being scored was great and one of the major reasons to sub.

Figuring out how to get that on here seems like potentially an important thing to discuss? I doubt anyone is going to be copying every single video link from reddit to here on a Saturday afternoon. Don't know if it's possible to find a way to automatically post them here from r/soccer or if Reddit is the actual source point of those streamable.com and dubz.co videos (or if there is another source where they also get posted instantly).

I was looking a few days ago and apparently you can scrape reddit by flair i.e. just scrape the media posts. Not sure if that has been affected by the API changes though. Unfortunately I'm not technical enough to come up with a python script on my own, nor do I wish to keep my PC running 24/7 to scrape for new media posts on reddit and have them automatically posted here. I could try and learn more if anyone else has the capacity to keep it running.

Edit: temporarily trying a 'post goals from Reddit' bot for a few hours. If you end up with 1000 posts on here in a few minutes then you know who to blame.

Thoughts on posting spoilers?

If there's post race penalties, crashes, important overtakes etc. its inevitable that spoilers will be posted with news/videos.

When I can't watch a race live and plan on watching it later I avoid places that discuss formula 1.

Edit: Not to forget, we don't have a mod to enforce any rules at the minute.

Manchester United fined €300,000 by Uefa for financial fair play breaches

Normally I'm quite harsh on these things but there are extenuating circumstances here. UEFA were making changed to FFP during the middle of covid with no knowledge of exactly what the next few years would hold. Expecting clubs to keep up with unexpected changes when they might have front weighted their allowed FFP losses etc. is a challenge.

UEFA aren't perfect with FFP rule breaches but its not like they haven't attempted to ban many large clubs from Europe before.

2023 British Grand Prix Practice Sessions

Yeah, there's clearly potential there.

He's avoided the constant errors that you often see from rookie or 2nd season drivers (Yuki, Mick Schu and de Vries being the recent examples). Think he's only had one (?) major crash this season which was in the wet in Canada.

From what we've seen in F1 so far he deserves a shot in a faster car one day.

Vid bot guy back again...

It might be best to switch it off for a week or so. It's difficult to troubleshoot any bot issues when it seems like lemmy.world and the API are having their own issues every day. I'll try to leave it running in a test community for longer and if it runs fine and then bring it back here.

@[email protected] if its easier for you to make @[email protected] a mod then I should (hopefully) be able to make it sticky/unsticky itself automatically every day for each new highlights post.
