Non verbal advice

It can be useful to have an app like speech assistant or another AAC on a phone or tablet, or like me, it's on my phone, my partners phone, and my tablet, prepped with both the ability to type out my messages or prepared "cards" with words or phrases on them. I have periods of non-verbal or semi-verbal times, and it is really nice to have the quick ability to communicate. Yes, you can text, but if I am out on my own, I might not know everyone's phone number who I might need to communicate with. Imagine having a semi-verbal/non-verbal episode right as your trying to order coffee. (Don't be scared, be prepared, right?)

What Do You Use SDF For?

So, Originally I used it to learn the UNIX command line, now I use it for all sorts of things. A lot of social networking. I've tried webhosting, but... well... it's been more miss then hit there. It's a great community though, and I love it!

It's Saturday 01/31/2026. Hey, What's Going On!

Just waking up for the day. Visiting with friends today, which, these are friends I don't have to mask too much around, so, it's nice to see them. I enjoy your cats. I am glad you could properly pay them off with treats. My golden retriever is getting bored being in all this winter with the cold, and I wish I could just let him play for a while. Maybe I will let him into the back yard later and just keep an eye on him to make sure he is staying warm.

Camping and Sensory issues

Thank you everyone! I'm trying some of these out this week. Got my comfy chair and I'm planning on trying the wipes this morning as I'm feeling a little gross, but not quite shower territory yet, and I'm definitely grabbing my sun glasses later.

Anyone else like enclosed spaces?

May I introduce you to my favorite relaxation activity: getting an MRI... Yes, I know it's not an every year activity, and it's expensive... But you simply must try it. I have a doctor that thinks I need one every two years on my brain... And it's so relaxing... Nobody bothers you, they have that loud techno music called "magnets", and it squeezes you just right.

Yes, I know I have problems.

please defederate from exploding-heads.com and rammy.site

I'm not saying there's no place for defederation. I'm just saying the reasons given seem... Idea driven. Then again my experience with Lemmy has been pretty good so far. The post I saw was a "I don't like these people and that group over there is thinking about blocking them, let's join in". People keep telling me it's not about taste... Maybe I need to go look for myself. I'm just thinking about a conversation I had on mastodon where someone showed me a (hilarious) screenshot of Facebook telling them that they used hate speech.... And it was just talking about a car. I guess... If they "stay in there lane" and leave our instances communitys groups alone, what is the harm in allowing two servers to speak. If on the other hand, they make threats, or mucking up the system (like is the concern with meta on mastodon) then perhaps defederating is the issue. MY PERSONAL CONCERN: Lemmy takes off, mom/grandma makes an account, and starts following content only mom or grandma would like. And boom... I'm horribly confused at the dinner table about those murder parties she's planning to go to... And I'm going "what the hell? what are you talking about." Let's be honest, I want the firehose... I need to keep an eye on those crazies... All of them. Plus... I like to be offended. Keeps me humble to know people don't like me.

Good system to get in to.

Honestly, I'm interested in 8 bit, I've played with other stuff and it seems to familiar. The NABU mentioned was a lot of fun in the emulator last night. I want something I might learn some asm on. The commodore was a strong condenser until last night, that's for sure.

EDIT: also, yes, fires are aweful. Don't recommend them. They mean dealing with... Insurance... Banks... Other evils.
