Need advice picking my next grinder

Hi,

I've been using a blade grinder for years and just recently realized how badly it affected the brew (took me a while, please don't hate haha).

So I started looking for a better alternative, with burrs, and from what I gathered, a good manual grinder will beat any fancy electric one, so I guess I'll be grinding my beans myself now.

I still need your help picking the right grinder for me, so here is my situation :

  • I mostly use a moka pot and a dripper, and more rarely a French press, for lack of a proper espresso set up
  • I'm also an espresso guy but I will probably end up investing in a decent espresso set up sonif the grinder could manage all of these that'd be neat! (I haven't started benchmarking for a proper setup yet because enjoying a good ristretto from time to time is fine by me for bow, but any advice on a a machine that is not too pricey is welcome too!)
  • most of the time I grind approx 20g of beans
  • I buy my beans from a local roaster, in small quantities (by 250g), dunno if this is any relevant

So far here is a list of grinders I've seen recommended on this sub :

  • 1ZPresso JX pro
  • Commandante c40 (but there are different burrs and I don't know which one I'd pick)
  • Capresso Infinity
  • Hario mini mill

Haven't bern really checking the the last two though. There seem to be quite we difference in prices range, so I need your help picking the right model (and size?). I don't want to spend too much, but I'm okay for a little pricey one if it makes a great deal of difference and it'll last! Also I'm open to look for second hand grinders unless you thinks it's a bad idea ?

Cheers and thank you for your help,

Edit : kingrinder's P & K series are also seemingly a solid choice, if any of you guys have an opinion, I'm interested!

Do I still get updates if I install from .deb file?

If I install software from .deb file, do I still get the updates & upgrades when I run sudo apt update / upgrade ? Or is flatpak the way to go? I'm not very familiar with flatpak, so I'm trying to avoid, but it seems that cons are limited. I'm currently running mint cinnamon (how original, I know), and asking because i can't seem to add mullvad-vpn stable repo. Thank you for your help,

Error when trying to boot Lite on old lenovo laptop

Hi!

I'm trying to install linux lite on my wife's old laptop, and I when I try to boot from the flash drive I get the following message:

ERROR Verification failed: (0x1A) Security Violation

Here are some details that may be relevant:

  • It's her personnal computer (not managed by a corporation
  • I'm using ventoy on a usb stick
  • I've only put Linux Lite 7.4 on the usb stick
  • I've tried launching Lite live on my own computer and it works just fine

I'm still a noob when it comes to linux, so I'm stuck with this error message. Can anyone help me with this? Thanks,

Should I upgrade to Mint 21 Vanessa?

Hi, I've been running linux mint for a couple years now, but I'm still a complete noob, every time I need to install an app or I need to go through a bunch of tutorial. Always found a way through though. Anyway, I'm currently running Mint 20.3 Una, and the System Reports suggest I upgrade to Mint 21 Vanessa. I would like to do so, but I have a couple questions for you: 1/ My USB ports don't work, so I can't make a backup of my system this way (and don't feel comfortable hosting a backup on the cloud since I'm currently using Proton and still have to move to another service). So I'm wondering if an upgrade is safe because I can't do a fresh install right now? 2/ Related to the first question: I'm using a old laptop (asus zenbook from 2015 or 2016, can't remember), so would I be find with an old hardware such as mine?

Cheers

Any e2ee app for group chat with a web interface?

Hi,

Trying to move group chat from telegram to a more private option, but the key feature is its web interface which is so convenient...

I've checked SimpleX, Session, Briar & Element-Matrix, but the first 3 do not have a web version and the latest only has a free version for self-hosting and I haven't looked into self-hosting yet.

I'd completely understand if what I'm looking for doesn't exist for free, but if anyone has a suggestion here, I'm interested!

Cheers

Anyone else getting bounced from mainstream websites with Mullvad VPN?

EDIT: Thank you all for your help, I guess I'll have to keep changing location, filling captcha and occasionally allow an exception. Keeping ones internet activity even remotely private requires effort, even with good tools.

Hi,

After reading time and again about how Mullvad VPN is the best VPN out there, I decided to give it a try and got myself an account & credit for a month worth of trial.

However after a couple days of use on my mobile (I also use Mullvad Browser), I'm getting bounced from many mainstream website.

Is this normal? Any settings I should adjust?

Cheers

How does app forking works exactly (ex: forkgram)?

More specifically, I'm thinking about forkgram, a telegram fork. I get that open source app make their code public therefore people can use it and build from it, but I thought it allowed for creating a separate app. Forkgram however still has all my chats so it must be able to connect to telegram servers and both apps must be somehow intertwined. Since telegram is only partly open sourced, I don't understand how this is possible and why telegram would allow this?

Is pixel 4a too old for a new phone?

Hi,

A friend wants to degoogle his phone, so I suggested the OS I'm currently using. The one we can't talk about... He wants a small/compact phone, so I suggested pixel 4a (not buying second hand though), but I'm afraid that planned obsolescence may kill the phone rather soon. What's your opinion?

Cheers and thank you for your help,
