[Texas Tribune] “We are dying”: Houston workers protest new state law removing water break requirements

Individual votes don't count nearly as much as corporate cash.
This is the epitome of late stage capitalism in the US.

Don't know if this content belongs here, but I just think this is awful in so many levels.

Disney changed their intro to Steamboat Willie to stop that. It will take a legal fight to get them to obey the rules.

Heavy particulate smog cools the planet. Horrible for people, but has masked how bad CO2 has increased global heating.
As many places have cleaned up diesel fuel emissions, the heating has increased.
The US East coast pollution of the 1970's was a major contribution to the drought in Ethiopia in the 80's. Dense smog blocks ocean evaporation. Chinese heavy smog has been causing a lot of the drought conditions in the western US due to the same factors.
I find it amazing how each Continent causes changes in other Continents.

LG to offer subscriptions for already purchased appliances and televisions, evolving into a provider for “Home as a Service”
Straight out of Cyberpunk Edgerunners.
Where everyone else saw a corporate dystopia, LG saw profit.

I had to stop smoking weed for medical brain damage reasons, and ended up gifting 4 grams of concentrate and all my glassware to a cool neighbor.
Multiple hundred dollar bongs and a $300 Opal set in a dab rig.
Back on opiates for pain, but he was a cool kilt wearing bastard.

How it going here? I'm looking forward to helping fuck up Reddit's IPO.
I'm really digging Liftoff on Android. Simple and painless.

Same here. My dad was hard left hippie, but the step-mom was far right racist from Oregon. I ended up with half my family in Gen X, with me and my little brother as millennial.
But, most of us dropped further anarchist than just liberal. I think it all comes down to money. All of my family are still as poor or poorer than we were growing up.
Only when people become wealthy as they grow up really become more conservative I think.

[The Verge] Reddit protest updates: news on the apps shutting down and Reddit’s fights with mods

Good write-up.
It took me a while until I got up to speed. The web ui was a lot easier to handle than old.reddit on a phone. Once I downloaded Liftoff, it was just like how Relay worked for me.
Yea, the content hasn't hit a critical mass, but I like being an early adopter again. I'm just surprised how fast Lemmy is moving. I haven't felt the need to really browse Reddit in almost a fortnight now. Still missing some things. But I have hope for this place.

Just pretend like you're adding a new server, just use the old server to login again. It did that to me after the exploit got fixed.

Do e-cigarettes actually work?
It took me 6 years, and a lot of lowering nicotine strength. I haven't touched my vape in a year now and still have a box full of vape liquid.
Vaping made it easier to stop when nothing else would help. The laws that limited flavors and sales would have hampered my efforts, buy I was lucky enough to have fully quit when they finally came into effect.

What book are you in the middle of reading right now?
Star By Star. Reading through the old EU New Jedi Order books again. The old EU is the best part of Star Wars.

Really feeling this one
My crappy basement apartment with my two older brothers and 3 separate phone lines just for playing Ultima Online, then Everquesst.
I missed a phone interview with Sony Online Entertainment, because I was too busy playing Asheron's Call to get off the dial-up connection. Having an unlimited access plan through my work really was bad. Especially when my job blocked every website based on my job searches because they wanted me to stay working the support line graveyard shift.
