Coming to you soon...
I have YouTube ReVanced on my phone. If YouTube ever defeats uBlock Origin on my desktop, I just won't watch YouTube on desktop anymore. I refuse to watch or view ads.

posting 'tankie' is the new 'woke' slur on a lemmy instance..
Liberals are incapable of intelligent conversation with others, especially those of opposing viewpoints. They've been trained to desire and maintain the status quo (Capital), even in the face of creeping fascism, and will parrot insults at anyone who doesn't tow the line. 'Tankie' is just the newest term.
It's just western red scare paranoia with a millennial twist. I hadn't peeked at those communities before, but I'll make sure they're given a wide berth now.

I mean liberalism in the sense of support for things like private property, liberal 'western' democracy and an exploitative, laissez-faire approach to market economies. I am American; perhaps I'm just not understanding the varied meaning of the word?

Reddit Wave and the Threadiverse
Reply in thread
I was watching the counter yesterday as various subreddits went dark, and I started watching when it hit 1200, and woke up this morning with it being over 6000.
There was an initial hurdle to understanding how instances work together / how to search between them, but now that I have that figured out, it's a lot easier. Most of the communities that I actively interacted with already have similar communities here on Lemmy. r/FountainPens was a big one for me.

How are you all processing this change in routine?
I’ve got Lemmy, a glitchy beta iOS app to view it with and I’m rollin’ with it. It’ll get better in the coming weeks and months.

Megathread for Reddit Blackouts and News - Day 3
I do not cross picket lines. Later this week, once the protest is officially over, I plan on going on Reddit, backing up my data using the PowerDeleteSuite another user posted about, and then overwriting and deleting my comments and posts with a message about the protest, before closing my account entirely.
Lemmy has already grown a nice community of people, and I'll be glad to contribute and watch it grow over time!

My stereo can do Bluetooth for music. That's good enough for me. I hope my car lasts forever because I don't want anything like that in my car.

It has now been 15 years since the federal minimum wage rose to $7.25
I remember when it rose from $6.25 to $7.25 when I was working at Kroger in high school. At the time it was a nice little bump, but the fact that it hasn't changed since is criminal.

Site to track Subreddit's as they go dark
They're about 1/5 of the way through the subreddits that said they would go dark. It's crazy watching all of them blink out in real time.

Will there be an iOS app for Lemmy?
I’ve been using Memmy for over a week now, and the amount of development in that time is insane! It’s progressing so fast, and I don’t even feel the need to use the web version of Lemmy anymore.

Leading the way
I once had to follow someone to church camp in high school. It was 100+ miles away, and she started doing 90 on the highway in her BMW. Meanwhile in my rickety KIA Spectra, I could barely do 65. She lost us, and I had to have someone else I was giving a ride to call her to get the address.
She got pulled over and ticketed, and still made it there before me.

Japan pushes for Apple and Google to allow sideloading
Please let this pass in the US as well. I want apps that don't have to send a 30% cut to Apple just for existing on their appstore, plus apps that Apple would never approve of in their high standards.

Amazon accuses customer of racism & shuts down their smart home
I work in IT, and I don’t have any ‘smart’ things at home. I don’t want to come home and troubleshoot more dumb junk.
I don’t even have a smart watch. My watch tells the time, has a timer, etc and that’s all I need.

Memory prices climb 500% in 12 months, up to 10x the lowest ever tracked prices — 128GB of DDR5 now $3,399
I am infinitely grateful to my past self that I purchased an on-sale 64GB RAM upgrade for my Framework 13 in 2024 before prices skyrocketed. It was $119, and checking back right now... Holy crap the same thing is $1,079 now.

I lived in McKinney when this happened. It's never not funny. 🤣

I wish more people understood how much we autistic folks struggle with summer
I hate the heat, and especially sweating when I’m not specifically exercising. The other day it was 43C / 110F (Texas), and it’s miserable. 😭

“I Will Remember Apollo”
I’m sad that Apollo is gone, but Memmy for Lemmy fills the hole left in my Home Screen just fine. The app has already progressed so far, it’s licensed under the GPL, and it has made my transition from Reddit to Lemmy flawless.

2026 is the year of the linux desktop
I'm loving to see all these people jumping to Linux. I switched back in 2008 with Ubuntu 8.10. So much has changed since then.
