Can I block posts about Reddit?
Engage content that you enjoy and ride this out.
Right now lemmy's growth is driven by people pre-emptively leaving reddit even though their choses mobile apps still function. We'll probably see another influx come July.
But for now all we as a seed community can do is engage the other topics we enjoy and build communities that have substance.
Eventually people will join to engage those topics instead of grip reddits demise.

NGL I derive some joy seeing maga/conservative/fascist communities getting all their misinformation downvoted to hell while the only positively voted posts are about the crimes & failures of trump and republicans in general.
I don't want them banned. This is much better.

I just heard about it minutes ago and the thread was locked. There will be some sort of announcement.
But apparently it was a alt-right conspiracy maga white supremist space. A user was commenting here all pissed off that that their repulsive community can't be forced on everyone like they would their ideology.

Why would Reddit push users away from their app shortly before announcing API changes?
Because reddit is run by a bunch of greedy losers who want to go public, pump, dump, and fuck off to wherever the next Little Saint James is.

Awards on lemmy would be a great way to subsidize server costs.

The unilateral rejection of right wing antics gives me hope for humanity. Not just that lemmy admins are willing to take a stand... but that the entire community here is downvoting them and not letting them thrive anywhere.
When I joined a week ago, the founder of c/conservative had already been run out of his own community and created c/conservativesonly... which he was subsequently run out of a second time and forced to make a new account to mod it.
In a weird way... lemmy might be the proof of concept we needed that democracy can beat fascism.

I don't derive pleasure from their ignorance. From that I derive migraines. It's specifically their failure to gain traction here on lemmy that I must admit to a degree of schadenfreude.
But for real, I've lost dear friends to this movement. At this point I've simply recognized that the only way to save those people is to be patient and keep an open door in case they do realize they're being duped. It's that or drive them further into the cult.
Thankfully lemmy is not putting up with their nonsense. I don't actually care if they get banned or not. I can only hope that seeing that their rhetoric only trends in spaces known to be bot-ridden and algo-driven will cause the most rational of them to wake up.

The dominance of cat content VS dog content on Lemmy reflects its current techie userbase

I got a cat at 18 for the same reason I don't want kids lmao. I like kids. I also like dogs. But I like leaving the house for more than 8 hours more and for that you need a cat.

True but have you looked at the vote scores in those communities?
On reddit they were cesspools but on lemmy they're laughing stocks. The only posts they can get above zero are antithetical ones pointing out the criminality and incompetence of trump/republicans.

modern society
You mean theocrats, aka christo-fascists and neo-christo-fascists.
Almost every single problem with society today is because of outdated social constructs and the religious tenants that enforced them overstaying their welcome while humanity continues to evolve.

What's even more annoying than google populating half the first page with ads is that the links don't even work half the time these days.

Saying you'd denounce a genocide you deny is happening isn't accomplishing what you think it is.
People don't equate "tankies" with "fascists" because you advocate some sort of marxist-inspired system of governance... it's because denying the suffering of others when it's politically convenient is absolutely the opening strategy of the fascist playbook.
Also, "Disown China"??? Nothing wrong with liking other countries but the way you guys talk about them is off putting and doesn't come across as informed or even remotely unbiased.

Lemmy's total users exceeds 740k today, up from 540k yesterday

Apparently a lot of those bots are just farming reddit and reposting here. Which I think in the short term is a good thing. People are more likely to join/stay if they see content. On the other I hope lemmy has the tools to prevent bot content from overwhelming user generated posts to the point that it loses the authenticity.
