Release Avalanche v4.1

I am proud to announce version 4 of Avalanche!

Avalanche is an unarchiver GUI using the ReAction toolkit for AmigaOS3.2 and 4.1. It supports xad, xfd and Deark so can extract and decrunch most files it encounters. Any unsupported files can be added via a xad module.

Version 4 represents a large GUI refresh. The file selector and buttons have been replaced by a unified toolbar, taking up less space and presenting a cleaner more modern design. These can use both internal four colour images or external AISS (or AISSClassic) full colour imagery.

The main file list browser is still available in old style list and tree mode, but has been expanded to display more fields. The icon set has been redesigned and extra images have been added to indicate encrypted files, links and disk images. Directories can now be selected and deselected without having to enter them in tree mode.

Disk images within DMS files can now be mounted directly on WB3.2 via double-click (other files can be opened with a double-click too!), and plain uncompressed images (eg. ADF, ISO) are now supported too if a suitable XAD module is present.

The progress bar has had an overhaul, now showing the overall extraction progress, and providing more status messages and detail. It has moved to the bottom of the window (in the border on OS4)

And, lastly, a tab bar means multiple files can be open in the same window.

Next’s £18 custard cream doorstop is the cutest way to keep doors open in the heat

Keeping your doors open to let the air through your home? We don't blame you, especially in this heatwave. But with all the windows open, doors can have a tendency to slam shut unexpectedly.

The solution? A doorstop, and there's no cuter pick than this plush option. The Natural Biscuit Doorstop is just £18 from Next, designed in the style of a custard cream. No matter what your favourite biscuit might be, I'm sure we can all agree that this home accessory is a sweet buy.

Editing body text causes highlighting

Bug Report

Describe the issue:

I've reported this previously but it is still happening.

When I tap in the Body text to move the cursor it highlights from the previous position to the new one, rather than moving it. This can be intermittent.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Start a new post
  2. Type some text
  3. Tap back earlier on the text
  4. It may highlight, it may move, it can be a bit random.

Delayed new post notifications

Bug Report

Describe the issue:

I've reported this previously but it is still happening.

When setting an alert on a community, the notifications for new posts are delayed. I'm generally getting a notification for the previous new post when another one is posted. When I go to the community I often have to manually refresh to see new posts (and then Connect will notify me of them).

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Subscribe to ![email protected]
  2. Tap the alarm bell to request new post alerts
  3. Wait (that community has two posts a day so is quite easy to see the problem)
  4. Observe that the alerts don't come through when expected

  • App Version: 1.0.468 (468)

Sky to pay £1.6bn for ITV's broadcasting and streaming division

ITV has agreed a £1.6bn deal with Sky, the owner of Sky News, for its media and entertainment arm following months of talks.

The agreement, subject to shareholder and regulatory approval, will create the UK's largest commercial broadcaster.

The proposed combination was first revealed last November.

It aims to create a UK-focused streaming giant amid the challenge posed by larger, established US platforms such as Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. The integrated streaming platform will have over 16 million viewers every month, said Sky's chief executive Dana Strong.

The deal includes the ITVX platform and ITV's free-to-air channels, but not ITV's studio operations.
