Just in case people haven't heard of it before - I found it today after reading the logs of a virtual meetup of permacomputing folks (https://tilia.lurk.org/)

Although the article is about an e-voting fuckup, there's a bit at the bottom that mentions that one of the things being voted on is about cash:

"Two of Sunday's referendum questions focused on the availability of cash. Nearly three-quarters of voters approved a government proposal to enshrine the mandate of the Swiss National Bank to supply physical cash and stick with the Swiss franc in the country's constitution, while a similar proposal backed by campaigners was narrowly rejected.

This is despite Switzerland having one of the lowest levels of cash use in Europe with just 30 percent of physical transactions in 2024 involving notes or coins."

There's a PDF linked in the page that explains how to create your own system. Unfortunately it doesn't really say how much power you can get out of it, but it sounds interesting!

1500W? At 12V that's 125A - That is fucking dangerous! Most sockets are rated at 20A. Most inverters that are >300W use crocodile clips, or preferably screw-down terminal rings. The cable looks way too thin too. That's a fire waiting to happen....

I finally received the inverter I ordered a while ago, and have been using it for a couple if weeks so far. I've been looking for a decent one for ages, as all the other high-output ones I tried or read about so far have been sub-optimal.

Would anyone be interested in a Cisco 3750 (WS-C3750G-48PS) for their #HomeLab or #SelfHosting set up etc?

There are 48 x Gig RJ45 ports, 4 x 1Gb SFP ports, and have PoE (15.4w) on all copper ports up to 370w total. This is usually good enough for CCTV cameras, VoIP phones and WiFi APs.

It's an old model, but works fine. It will be wiped and won't have any SFPs or console cable, but I can provide a power cable if needed.

If you don't want to buy a console cable I can configure it with an IP and credentials.

I was given several by a friend, but don't need them all. One of them is still my core switch, which is on 24/7.

I am willing to post to the UK only, as it will be too expensive to send overseas (unless you're willing to pay, but then would be cheaper to just buy one off ebay locally...)

Any takers?

I don't want to just give them to a recycling company, and ebay would probably be too much hassle.

WTF?

This is why cloudy systems are asking for trouble. I have several charge controllers at home - none of them connect to the internet, and although probably more expensive, I feel vindicated that this was the right choice....

A bit too hardcore for me, but can't fault his conviction.

I'm all for putting solar panels all over the place, but won't these get dusty and oily and need loads of cleaning after trains pass over?

Also, costing €623,000 over three years sounds rather expensive for just 100m (although that roughly equates to 11KW).
