Do you have some minor life advice?
When having a conversation someone, try paying attention to the other person's body language, tone and the way things are said.
You can pick up a lot of things that way, possibly mood and others.

Pick One: Which is your favorite way to read books?
Ereaders. They're light, have adjustable font size, can hold an extensive catalogue of books and have less distractions, in comparison to using a tablet with an ereader app on it.
Moreover, they allow me to escape international shipping fees which have really risen over the years.
On the other hand, nothing compares to the smell of a book and the sensation of holding one in your hand. I wish I could had hardcopies of some my ebooks for times when I want to get away from tech.

What is something that was explained to you wrong such that you could never understand it, and you received a clarifying explanation that finally made sense?
Exponentiation. I don't think it was ever really explained before, instead it was treated like something I should've known.
One day I watched a YouTube video that made the world of difference, then I got it.

What was using the internet in the early 2000s like?
I remember e-mail providers having low storage, maybe 1MB max and getting e-mails frequently deleted by said providers after not logging in after a certain time.
Using MSN and yahoo chat rooms were a fun way to meet people. I remember there being rooms on Yahoo (were they called conferences?) just for people to have singing sessions.
Locally, almost everyone with a computer and dialup had MSN messenger installed, so plenty chatting with classmates after school on there.
I vaguely remember being subscribed to yahoo groups for fan and local interests. They were a good way to be kept informed.
Surfing the web was fun. I never knew what I would find next.
Oh and Neopets.

[Meta] Could we move the community to another instance to ease the load on Lemmy.world?
I agree with migrating the !casualconversation community to lemm.ee
It concerns me the volume of communities and even users on LW, so I'm totally on board with us spreading some of the load by the way of migrating to another instance.
Hopefully it won't be a difficult process.

Let's talk movies and TV, what have you been watching lately?
I'm watching Not Dead Yet.

[Migration post] Can you please comment here if you see this post? That will allow us to have an idea of instances that are now federated with the community

It's interesting what alcohol has done to people I know since years
Reply in thread
I can understand this. I get weird looks and teased for declining drinks or admitting that alcohol taste bad to me - I can't tolerate it, it's bad for a medical condition of mine and I'm not going to pretend to be someone I'm not just to fit in (the compromise is me getting a soft drink or water while the others drink what they want).
On the other had, I've had drunk family friends that were a pain to deal with, been cursed at by a drunken villager one time and had our property littered with beer bottles and other trash when they've been parties in our area.

For sure! The same can probably be said for science teachers too.

Are you a hi or a hello person? Or something else entirely?
It varies according to the time of the day and or who I'm greeting. I think I mostly say 'good morning' etc.

Good weekend everyone!
Back at you, have a good weekend yourself too, thanks.😊

Do you take a shower after you swim?
I've never been in a pool as I have easy access to beaches (I still don't go anyways). I suspect many people here take showers after going to beach, to rid themselves of the sand that gets everywhere.
