What is the one most astonishingly dumb things that, as a child, you believed was absolute truth?

17-year-old Boulder cyclist hit by vehicle, killed while training for mountain bike world championships
I don't know if it's increased since covid but people seem to have shifted from anti cycle to outright openly hostile towards cyclists, at least where I live. I can't count the number of incidents I've had this year alone where I've had to swerve to avoid someone angrily forcing their way into a bicycle lane, running lights or going out of turn in a four way stop, or just intentionally grazing me because fuck bicycles apparently

PLEAAASSEE PLEASE COME BACK TO THE OFFICE PLS

No need for the \s. That is literally how they did this "study". I'd be interested to see who it was that paid for this bullshit, wouldn't be surprised to see the money trail leading back to commercial real estate.
The article boasts the headline front and center % productivity loss, as though this was some years long extensive study. The section of the report discussing these results is less than two paragraphs long. I've seen high school students put together a more detailed a well researched study.
What bothers me the most is that people will readily reference this article and spread this bullshit everywhere, with basically no one having read the study or put any critical thinking into this at all.

Netflix phases out 'basic' streaming plan from its subscription options in Canada | CTV News
So now they've confirmed existing basic plan members are also being targeted "in the near future". No problem, I've saved them the trouble for myself. I had mostly stopped using it by now anyway, not even worth the $10/month I was wasting on it

[Sunday evening post] Good luck to everyone tomorrow!
Thank you! I noticed the usual feelings of dread creeping in already

YSK that most car’s fuel gauges have an arrow that point to which side your gas tank is on.
Reply in thread
I was using this arrow more when I was driving different vehicles for work. We have two vehicles and each has the tank on the opposite side, so I had just trained myself to use the arrow now. Just something I had gotten used to doing I guess

ADHD Women Weekly Check-In for November 19-25: How are you all doing?
Today was my first day back from vacation. So many emails... I just kept scrolling through all the unread and felt defeated. I allowed myself extra distractions today while trying to at least prioritize things, but it ended up being a surprisingly productive day somehow. On to tomorrow.

Don't feed the trolls.
They don't care about the topic, they don't care about the facts or a logical debate. They only care about getting a reaction out of you. Don't give them what they want.

A Near Constant Sense of Doom
Yes! That and anxiety overall has increased. I don't think I can blame it all on hormone changes but definitely has increased the last few years into my 40's. It's not really focused on any one thing, more of a general sense of dread or fear of someone attacking me. Mindfulness has helped but not entirely.

Yeah, they sent me an email basically saying "we're sorry" with no offer for free credit monitoring or anything.

for the Reddit refugees, do you also feel a bit heartbroken?

I had the same experience, and I've had Baconreader premium for many years. I had developed a habit of constantly reloading it in an endless search for new content. I'm interested in trying new things though, both this and Mastadon.

A law firm was fined $5,000 after one of its lawyers used ChatGPT to write a court brief riddled with fake case references
Reply in thread
I'm imagining their lawyer pulling out their wallet at the hearing and thumbing through their singles to pay the fine.
$5k is absolutely nothing for a typical law firm, lunch money

What's your recurring nightmare? What do you think it means?
For years I had recurring dreams where I was lost wandering an endlessly large building - usually office buildings with hundreds of hallways and stairwells that led to more endless hallways. Haven't had them as often the last few years but they always left me feeling down the next day.

Kbin: What is your favourite (or least favourite) horror film?
A few have mentioned Hereditary already so I'll give an honorable mention to Dark Skies with Keri Russel.
