I killed no monsters on the ascent, but I killed stuff on descent ofc.

I didn't actually farm anything explicitly, I just had ring of wealth and it ended up giving me enough potions and scrolls with a standard descent.

Something similar happened to me in the latest build while I was chasing the Gnoll Geomancer (who is much easier than the crystal boss imo). My character moved halfway along the path I was going and stopped moving (the walk animation was still playing tho).
