Well shit, they're even going after tiny not-so-active subs like mine
I'm moving my teeny-tiny sub to kbin tonight.
All 8 people that subscribe to its semi-annual posts will have their worlds shaken /s

Reddit activated a word filter that whenever you say "fuck spez", your comment won't show up for anyone else. I just tested it on ModCoord. they're also deleting spez memes from the subs they nuked lo
Competition time: Who can come up with the best "Fuck Spez" ASCII art that will display correctly in reddit commits.

TIL Fungi in Chernobyl appear to be feeding off gamma radiation and are growing towards the reactor core.
We just need to let it grow until it fills the New Safe Confinement. Then, in a century, when the NSC is due to be replaced we'll be off the hook thanks to the nuclear shroom.

I think the lemmy instance that's only for reddit reposts is a great way to go about it. You always know what you're in for if you sub anything there, and it's not taking up space on other servers.

For my first post on Lemmy, I present the last post I made on Reddit 11 years ago. Thank you to everyone that has made the fediverse happen.
How long do you think it will take before we have decentralized/federated identities to go along with it?

I really DIG this humor.
You're digging yourself a hole, my friend.

Please don't repeat the same mistake as Linux
As a linux user if 25+ years, you're off on a bad foot with me from the beginning.
The base idea of ActivityPub is that we can't let things get too big, because that draws attempts to takeover the userbase. There are already organized efforts beginning on Mastodon to mass defederate from any server (maston.social) that get's to 51% of the total userbase because it would be an existential threat to all of ActivityPub if that happened. You're basically asking starfleet to please ignore the prime directive.

I'd like to encourage people on the fediverse to comment/upvote/post more than when reddit
It took me a few days to realize that I could comment on threads without getting bombarded by every troll on the internet. The reddit conditioning is hard to break.

Why is Kbin seemingly growing considerably slower than Lemmy?
Reply in thread
Interesting. I got the opposite impression, that Kbin is friendlier and has a nicer UI (for the most part). I ended up moving from lemmy.world because of it.

lemmit.online is one I know of. Each community is a reddit board. It pulls the subs via RSS so there are no comments, just the original post.

/r/bestofredditorupdates has been forced open after users voted to keep it closed indefinitely. They're currently running a poll on whether to become another John Oliver sub.

This is one of the two subs I frequented and miss because there isn't an active fediverse alternative. The other is r/taskmaster

I'm ready for September 2024
If it's all prophecy then what comes next: the eugenics wars, the second civil war, or world war 3?

Nuclear reactor startup (with sound)
My university had a reactor similar to the first one and there was a parabolic mirror angled over the pool so we could look in from the control room. I always loved watching the Cherenkov radiation and thinking about how I was basically seeing a photonic boom.

I have a theory, the current doctor when you started watching is your favorite doctor. Would this apply to you?
Doesn't apply to me. Pretty sure Tom Baker was my first Doctor (via PBS reruns). Of the pre-2005 series Jon Pertwee was my favorite.
When nuWho started I was there from the start with Eccleston, but Tennant is my favorite.

You can now get reddit posts on lemmy via RSS, without any ads ;)
Oh, there's a Home Assistant crossposter on Lemmit too at [email protected] . Without Reddit or Twitter I have felt very out of the loop on Home Assistant

Hypothetically speaking, if Reddit back tracks on their API plan and meets all of the communities expeditions- would you go back to Reddit?
If Kbin and Lemmy keep being this active I'm sticking around here. I'm really enjoying it at this level. More so than Reddit. But if this place dies AND Reddit is less scummy for a while, I might go back.
