I moved to Canada to avoid Trump's second term, but I can't escape US politics

They're still an American citizen. Nowhere in the article is it mentioned if they voted in the U.S. election.

If they didn't vote, then I'm sorry to say, they're a coward. Moving up here and then refusing to do your civic duty as an American citizen to keep this guy out of office to the best of your ability as someone abroad would make me furious if they're sticking around here, so I'm really hoping that that isn't the case.

DC is getting empty.

Sorry, it's been ten years of this. I'm kinda done with giving nuance to Americans.

Harsh? Maybe, but when even the Democrats are caving in to Trump's demands for fuck all reason, I'm just done caring about what the thoughts of people down South are.

Literally been told by "left-wing" Americans that my thoughts and opinions on their politics don't matter even with the bullshit going on, and all I can think of is how I as someone over the border wouldn't have to fucking care if they treated this guy like the fucking threat they supposedly see him as rather than do nothing more than tell people to vote as if that's some big fucking accomplishment.

If getting out to vote is supposedly all that people could have done against this and nothing else (their words and actions, not mine), then yeah, ya get what ya vote for.

They never seem to be there. All Americans ever seem to be is talk.

All these dumb excuses for constant inaction to the point where other fucking countries have to clean up their mess. I'm frustrated to the point that I want to see a policy implemented saying that if you didn't vote in the last election (assuming you were eligible to do so), you don't get entrance since you'd be more of a burden as someone who can't perform their civic duty

Gen Z consumers say Buy Canadian movement is unaffordable

Real Canadian Superstore prices for my hummus since this started:

Swapping from Peru-made lemon juice for my hummus to malt vinegar - cost down from $2.79 to $1.50
No Name Chickpeas to Unico equivalent - $1.50 to $2
Using canola oil and not olive oil as suggested by nearly every recipe - no name olive oil costs $12 for 750 mL whereas canola oil costs $8.29 for 3 L getting you more for less with hardly a change in the recipe
Tahini - found a good recipe from Diabetes Canada that completely removes this ingredient, saving me a solid $10 for a jar
To finish things off, while both Canadian, swapping from sandwich bread to sliced French bread for dipping - $1.97 to $1.25

Cost of hummus ingredients goes from $28.26 to $13.04 with the added bonus that one of those ingredients lasts three times as long.

People need to learn substitutions in their recipes, that alone saved a tonne. I pay more for Canola oil personally cause I get Canola Harvest and not the no name brand since they're unionized, but even with that in mind you're paying less than olive oil for like, double the amount.

Canada's oldest company to liquidate all but 6 stores starting Monday

Never been huge on Hudson's Bay, but honestly this can be owed to improper regulation of online shopping. The fact that the government hasn't done more to protect Canadian businesses from online competitors, namely Amazon, is absurd, especially with the ridiculously wasteful practices Amazon has made an industry standard.

It's already a pain for malls and shopping outlets to find replacements for old Sears and Target/Zellers locations. This being added to the mix is going to deal a huge blow to malls where Hudson's Bay is seen as an anchor, and an equally large blow is going to be dealt to the social shopping experience.

Being from Edmonton, Kingsway Mall already comes to mind. When Sears closed, the space eventually became occupied by a Walmart, and it's worrisome to think of another heavily American retailer swooping in on where Hudson's Bay is currently, or it being the case that they demolish the entire section of the mall similar to what they did at Mill Woods Town Centre with the old Target/Zellers space.

Honestly Misskey forks for all their flaws can absolutely take this opportunity to properly advertise themselves as viable alternatives. As someone who uses a Misskey fork, I love the UI in comparison to Mastodon, and the communities in Misskey forks are a lot less techie and a lot more laid back and goofy most of the time from my personal experience.
