About to build my first Linux PC :3

  • CPU: Ryzen 9 9900X
  • Cooler: Thermalright Peerless Assassin 90 SE
  • GPU: Radeon RX 9070XT
  • RAM: 2x32Gb DDR5 6000MHz
  • Mobo: ASRock 620AM PRO-A
  • SSD: Kingston 1Tb
  • Power: Fox Spirit HG 1000W

The choice of GPU is because this will be a Linux machine. I plan to install PopOS on it and use it for video editing, digital art, gaming, and streaming thereof.

I've had Mint installed on my side computers for a while, but i don't do anything complicated with them. This is the big one, the one where things can actually go wrong. Pray for me lmao

2FA issue: my phone was destroyed, so i can't disable it

The phone that I used for two factor authentication is dead. I have a new phone and i'm in the process of restoring everything.

Unfortunately, when it comes to pawb.social, i'm not gonna be able to disable 2FA because, to do so, i am asked for a 2FA code. Which i could get if my old phone was still working, but it isn't.

EDIT forgot to mention: at the time i set up 2FA on this account, i was not given backup codes. The text file where i store them just says "Lemmy: they didn't give me any". I don't remember what the circumstances were back then

The app i'm using is Aegis Authenticator.

I can still access this account because i never logged out of it on PC, but i'm building a new PC right now so i'll lose the account.

I'm not asking for anyone to disable it in the backend, that would be a security issue. Not sure what to do, honestly it's not that big a deal to delete the account and remake.

Of course it's great that this instance has 2FA in the first place, but then this issue arises.

I searched this c/ for this topic and it looks like i'm the first to raise this.

Thanks for everything you guys do

The comment box of that thread in particular doesn't appear to work. Details in post body

My account is on pawb.social and i'm trying to comment on the latest discussion thread on yiffit.net, but as the gif shows, the comment box doesn't react to clicks. Other things seem to work fine.

Perplexingly, every other thread that i can find on yiffit.net lets me comment normally, it's just this one thread where the box doesn't react. That would imply that this thread in particular has a comments limit, but i can't see any indication of that.

Apologies if i'm being the big dumb, it's true that most computer issues are between the keyboard and the chair

I will log off for today and try again tomorrow, i have a whole rant ready in my mind god dammit
