TIL in 1933 the Wall Street Journal had a headline which read "Berlin Views Hitler Calmly: Rise in stocks reflects confidence he will not disrupt nation's affairs"

If anyone asks how the Germans could elect a wannabe autocrat populist and how many people could ignore clear signs of genocide going on.

Now you know.

Edit

A lot of people commenting about either my observation not being astute enough, or misinterpreting history in one way or another.

My observation is solely about and how these things happen it's not very conspirational nor institutional, just weaponized anxiety, populism, polarity and apathy.

The particular brand of ideology, or the identity of the perpetrator does very little for the equation. People being selfish and wilfully ignorant as long as they are pandered to.

Merkel: I mistook Trump for ‘someone completely normal’

Lots of critical comments here. Can we just please applaud a politician who -I know, in huge retrospect- admits to her being wrong about something.

Would I rather have politicians who make no mistakes at all? Yes. I just dispise the amount of politicians who never ever own up to their mistakes and keep on vaguely blaming everyone but themselves. It was Trump that exarbated that method (though it had been in use much longer, he just went in more blatantly.)

Lets please celebrate boring, conscientious politicians that own up to their mistakes and instead hate on the ones that get off scott free by lying their asses off. That'd be great

Protester arrested over ‘Plasticine Action’ T-shirt: ‘How ridiculous is this?’

About five minutes later, the arresting officer approached him again. “He said: ‘I’ve got good news and I’ve got bad news.’ I said: ‘What’s the good news?’ He said: ‘I’m de-arresting you.’

“And I said: ‘What’s the bad news?’ He said: ‘It’s going to be really embarrassing for me.’ And then I walked free, while all the real heroes are the people that are actually getting arrested.”

The reall heroes indeed. Still this Chad got to draw some needed attention to the outright stupidity of it all...

What Foreign Diplomats Say About US Politics Behind Closed Doors

The whole world feels like losing a big brother to the agony of drug addiction, forced to watch all the stupid decisions that impact millions of lives across the globe.

It's such a hurtful thing, as someone who experienced the optimism of the nineties, when the cold war appeared to be over. It's been downwards from there, through Bush all the way up to Trump.

Get well big bro. Pull through, pls.
