DC’s Carter Barron Amphitheater welcomes back crowds after decade-long closure

In 2016, the music died at D.C.’s iconic Carter Barron Amphitheater in Rock Creek Park when the venue’s stage was deemed unsafe.

Now, music is returning to the historic venue, as organizers bring it back to life for three nights starting Thursday with the help of a temporary stage and some familiar local performers.

....

While the return is temporary, Puskar said the effort is about reminding people why the venue matters and to build support for a larger restoration effort being developed with the National Park Service.

Man accused of filming himself stroking women’s hair on Metro train found guilty

A man who was pardoned for rioting on Jan. 6, 2021, at the Capitol was found guilty Wednesday of touching a woman’s hair on the Metro while filming it and posting that video on social media.

Judge Epstein will sentence Betancur on Thursday at 2 p.m. The maximum sentence for simple assault, a misdemeanor, is 180 days of incarceration.

It will not be the end of Betancur’s legal troubles, however. He faces an assault charge in Arlington for a similar incident on the Metro there. Betancur is also facing stalking charges in D.C.

Kennedy Center Ordered to Pay $250,000 to Jazz Musician It Unsuccessfully Sued for Backing Out of Concert After Trump Rebranding

In a statement Tuesday, Lisa J. Banks, one of Redd’s attorneys, said: “The Trump-controlled Kennedy Center tried to silence opposition to its illegal name change by filing a meritless lawsuit against jazz musician Chuck Redd. The court rightly dismissed that breach of contract lawsuit, finding there was no contract and no damages, and was brought against Mr. Redd based on his protected opposition. Now the court has ordered the Kennedy Center to pay Mr. Redd’s legal fees, which is appropriate as no citizen should have to spend time and money fending off baseless and politically motivated lawsuits filed by the Trump Administration.”

Montgomery County reaches deal with White’s Ferry owner

Libby Devlin owns Rockland Farms, the site of the ferry landing in Loudoun County. She told WTOP she wasn’t aware of the deal and was not invited to Friday’s news conference. Rockland Farms has previously rejected offers to buy land on the Virginia side of the river to get the ferry operational again.

According to sources familiar with the deal between Kuhn and Montgomery County, the county is buying the land in Maryland at a price below appraisal, and Kuhn is donating the ferry operations to the county.
