Sign up to Github with Tuta mail is "Unusual activity", with just created Gmail it's fine

So I have a story to share:

I wanted to create a Github for my new project so I used my tuta mail for sign up. But I've got “We detected unusual activity”. So I followed the troubleshooting guide from Github:

  • tried different browsers
  • disabled plugins
  • tried different networks
  • tried different devices
  • I even tried a different email from my local provider (Centrum email)

Nothing helped. And then I thought - I know what's your problem you assholes. You're bothered that I didn't use one of the mega-corporation emails like Gmail or Outlook, isn't it?

So in like 3 minutes I created a new Gmail account and voila - sign up worked.

And my question is - so an email created in like 3 minutes isn't an unusual activity Github? That's fine? But tuta for which you need to wait for 2 days for verification is a "Unusual activity"?

Rant over

PS. If you ask why Github, well, currently it's a small project for our community that might go nowhere eventually. I just need it fast, I need Github pages and I need it as accessible as possible so I don't demotivate people right from the start.

Proveedores de mail cifrado. Comparativa entre Proton, Tuta y Disroot

cross-posted from: https://scribe.disroot.org/post/5840601

En un internet dominado por grandes tecnológicas donde los datos personales son una mercancía más con los que las empresas trafican para generar beneficios, y en un mundo donde los estados son cada vez más represivos para mantener el orden burgués, el cifrado de comunicaciones es algo vital.

Switch from Fastmail

When I switched from Gmail, I looked at Tutamail and Fastmail as options. I REALLY liked Tutamail, but I had a couple of deal breakers.

First, I wanted to be able to have email aliases for people on my domains that do not have mailboxes on my domain. So, if "fred@" has a Gmail account, I wanted to be able to set up an alias for "fred@" to point to "[email protected]".

Secondly, I wanted to be able to create aliases that go to multiple people both on and off Tutamail. So, if I create a "lemmyusers@" alias, I want to be able to have that go to both "me@" and "mywife@" and possibly also "[email protected]".

Does anyone have any ideas on how to accomplish that with Tutamail directly or to involve a private/secret 3rd party service/app in front of Tutamail to handle the aliases?

Thank you!

Ease of switchover from Proton to Tuta - particularly for aliases

I’m seriously contemplating moving from Proton to Tuta for email, and ditching Proton altogether. (Separately, I’ll go with Mullvad for VPN.)

My question is—if you’ve made that same email switch—how you’ve gone about shifting across aliases in Simplelogin which use one of their domain aliases to Tuta. Is it a case of having to update every single email manually? I will very likely end up using a custom domain with Tuta and so would have something like [email protected] for each alias, and now really really wish I’d done that already with Proton… 😬

Does the “unlimited custom domain addresses” offered with the Revolutionary and Legend packages mean that I can have unlimited aliases using my own domain? It seems so but wanted to check with those who are already operating it that way.

Thanks in advance for any help with this!

You can keep your main Tuta email address as a free account."

from https://tuta.com/support/general#subscribe

If I upgrade, can I downgrade to free again?

Yes, you can downgrade back to free anytime. Before this, you need to disable all extra bookings. You can keep your main Tuta email address as a free account.

just to be sure, does this mean that i can keep using [email protected] even if i downgrade to free? What if i already had [email protected] before i upgraded?

Questions before switching from Proton

I’m currently evaluating switching from Proton to Tuta and the experience has been pretty great so far. There are just a couple pain points/ questions I have before taking the plunge.

Recently, Proton recently released a calendar widget last week that has been very useful for me. Is there any change of Tuta calendar doing the same, or is this not possible to do securely?

I also use Simple Login for aliasing and have a hundreds of aliases. I know it’s possible to do the same in Tuta with custom domains, but are you also able to “pause” those aliases, or is it just create and delete? Curious as to what the management interface would be like

BUG: deactivated alias unable to activate

so this is a technical issue that i have already reached out over but to no response or fix. i have used my alias's and have deactivated one of those alias's a year ago, i now and haven't been able to reactivate the alias.

i would like to see this issue remedied but the lack of response is disheartening especially after reaching out to technical support months ago and hearing nothing back.
