Soft Fan Purr Sound? Lenovo Legion 5

Model: LENOVO 82WM Legion Pro 5 LENOVO_MT_82WM_BU_idea_FM_Legion Pro 5

Hello! I think there's a fan issue with my laptop, Yesterday, while not running any program, the laptop was just " on", it started making this very soft sound, it doesn't seem to get any worse when I'm running anything heavy. Almost like a cat purr, I've had the laptop for years and this is certainly a new sound. Here's a 10 second video of it, you have to turn your volume way up to hear it (not a prank I promise you) https://drive.proton.me/urls/36SJE4WA6M#mq36NBG8two5

Do I crack it open and take a look, or leave it to a pro? I'm ok with the software side, but not hardware.

Do not update to the new Lenovo Legion Space Update

As you have probably seen, the new Legion Space update is mostly ads on the home screen. The only way to avoid this is by turning off your WiFi before opening Legion Space and turning off "Automatically Update Resources".

Instead use LLT (Lenovo Legion Toolkit). Open source alternative.

https://github.com/XKaguya/LenovoLegionToolkit

Incase you are not aware what Legion Space is:

Lenovo Legion Space is Lenovo’s unified gaming hub app for Legion devices that lets users launch games, tune performance, tune CPU/GPU and fan profiles, and control RGB lighting from a single interface, effectively replacing or complementing Lenovo Vantage on newer Legion systems by centralizing game-focused controls and organizing titles across services for quick access on Legion laptops and handhelds such as the Legion Go, in a role similar to other OEM gaming hubs like Asus Armoury Crate or Acer PredatorSense.

Lenovo G710 CPU and Ram Upgrade Questions

About a Year ago I received a Lenovo G710 from my Uncle. At the Time I looked at its Specs and saw it was just a bit better then the Laptop I'm still using now (Asus I7-4500U with 12gb of DDR3-1600) So I left it as was on a Shelf.

Yesterday a Friend of mine asked me if he could Buy it just to have a Laptop for on-the-go, so I figured I'd put in a SSD, Ram Upgrade and Repaste the Thermals which got me to look up its Technicals...

Much to my Suprise, turns out that not Only does it have 2 Ram Banks, but also a Socketed CPU- meaning I can Upgrade it!!

Now I do wonder just how Far I can Upgrade it? Right now its got an i5-4210M and around 8 Gigs of RAM. I've read in places that a i7-4712MQ is the most Performative you can get, is that true? I've also read Conflicting info on just how much RAM it can handle. Most places on the Internet say it can take a max of 16 gigs, yet I've seen claims of it going up to 32 gigs (All DDR3-1600), which the CPU does support.

Would love to hear your Folks Thoughts!

After market/3rd party storage in Lenovo servers

I have customized Lenovo server builds in the past with after market drives/storage, and I was wondering if anyone has insigt or experience with what the implications might be. Will it affect the warranty of the server as a whole, or if a drive fails and the server is under warranty will an on site warranty tech refuse to work on it? Stuff like that? Or are there other considerations? I am having a hard time finding anything regarding this, and considering how expensive Lenovo branded storage solutions are, the financial incentive to go aftermarket/3rd party is hard to ignore.

The dreaded loose charging pin problem in Lenovo IdeaPad L340

Any permanent solution to this loose charging pin problem in Lenovo laptops which have rectangular pin port.

Can't we replace it with USB or anything better?

Edit 1: This is what I do to make it work.

  1. Turn ON the switch before plugging it into laptop.
  2. Slowly put it in until you see the LED light glow. Don't put it all the way into the port.

Edit 2: Oof, have to do some non-invasive procedure.

For months it wouldn't even turn on or charge, today it finally turned on, it let out an unholy weird BEEP and now I see this screen. I hit F9 and press enter and it does nothing. please advise.

Lenovo Thinkpad - Fn Ctrl swap!

I purchased a new Thinkpad in early December and love it, except I knew immediately that the position of the Ctrl key was going to be a problem. My last Lenovo had the Ctrl key in the very lower left corner, and I have been unable to adjust to the new keyboard layout. I’m always hitting the Fn key by mistake.

I just found out last night that the BIOS has a handy “Fn and Ctrl Key swap” switch. I’m giddy over this discovery.

I do some serious work on this laptop, but I got really desperate to modify this keyboard layout when I got killed by Minecraft monsters twice while trying to find the sprint key. I’ll have to blame something else the next time.

Many don't know that Lenovo is a Chinese company who owns other prominent companies

I am not against Lenovo in any way, they have been making excellent products over the years, I am just surprised that many don't realize that it's a Chinese Company, despite them being such a big player in the PC market. Lenovo first acquired IBM's PC division in 2005, which majorly consisted of the Thinkpad and ThinkCentre models.

Other facts,

In 2014, Lenovo acquired Motorola Mobility which consisted of their Phone Business. In the same year, Lenovo purchased IBM's Server business.

In 2017, Lenovo obtained a 51% stake in Fujitsu through their PC Joint-Venture.

There are other companies that Lenovo ones, what do you guys think ? Do you think there are others worth noting ?

What Lenovo product do you use?

Hello everyone and welcome to our Lenovo community!

I've updated the profile pictures and included a description text.

To start things off and get a discussion going I'd like to know which Lenovo products you use on a daily basis. Do you like them? What do you like about Lenovo specifically?

I have a Lenovo X1 and a love the slim design and the lightweigth materials. It's my perfect companion.

Have a great day everyone :)
